PuRR Project 2017 Calendar
PuRR Calendar Cover 2017Our beautiful 2017 calendar will be back from the printer and ready for pre-sales or mailing later this month.
This 5th Year Special Edition has the theme “Deep into the gaze of felines” and features some stunning photos of our shelter cats.
The cover girl this year is “Bowie”, a rescue from the streets of El Centro who has found her Furr-ever home in Montreal with Lucie DesLauriers.
But most of the months feature cats who are fortunate to have amazing eyes, but not fortunate enough to have found a home…..yet!
Sales of this calendar will help us continue to offer long-term care for these felines.
The cost is again $20 USD plus mailing or $250 pesos if you are here in Mexico. If you are interested, please contact Bama at info@purrproject.com for info on mailing schedules or how to pay on-line.

Shelter Update
The summer rains have begun, with over 17 inches in the first week!
The road to PuRR is always an adventure, but heavy rains create difficult conditions on the un-paved and heavily used lanes on two sides of the shelter.
It also means strong winds that often bring down branches (and occasionally a tree!) on the property.
Jose and his brother, Carlos, have been very busy with yard work the last month. They’ve cleared a lot of brush and dead branches & vines from the property and it’s looking good!
So far, no major leaks so the roof should be good for another year.
Re-painting the ranch house inside and out is their next project. They’ve already started on the porch, and of course, couldn’t do it without a little help from some curious kitties!
The bodega has never been painted and will be a big project because there is so much stuff stored in there.

Virtual Adoptions
Lynn and Ross Regandez of So. Carolina were thrilled when “Alice”, their virtually adopted cat of several years actually found a Forever Home in February with Laura and Neil Parker.
On their visit to Vallarta in June, they made plans to visit the shelter for an opportunity to choose a new Virtual Kitty
After an hour of meet & greet with many of the garden cats, they chose a blue-eyed female with coffee-colored spots and named her “Mocha”.
She has lived at the shelter for at least five years but never had a name before!

Antonia and her new kitten buddy |
Adoption updates
“Antonia” has been at her Forever Home with Layla Adams in Bucerias for a little over a year now and she writes: “The kitty I adopted from you guys is doing great! We recently rescued two more kittens for her to have some friends and she adores them!”
Antonia was found almost starved and with bruises and unable to walk.
With good nutrition and physical therapy from a PuRR volunteer, she recovered quickly and is now a healthy, happy cat!
“Maxwell Valentino” was rescued by a tourist who smuggled him into his hotel suite.
Concerned by an obvious mouth injury, he contacted us on Facebook and a PuRR volunteer arranged surgery to repair the damage.
Heather Sullivan fell in love with this little sweetheart on a visit to the shelter this past February and promptly decided to take him home to Denver.
She recently sent us this photo of Max, who is doing just fine today!
Shannon Beston's clinic volunteers |
Isla Cuale free spay/neuter clinics
Since the PuRR sponsored clinic in April, our volunteers have continued to help at the other clinics, which are scheduled the first Sunday of every month through December.
The next one was sponsored by PEACE on July 3rd (October 2nd is the next one for PuRR).
This project will have sterilized hundreds of cats and dogs from Puerto Vallarta by the end of the year.
Sterilization and education are the only long-term solutions for reducing overpopulation and the suffering of so many abandoned animals in our local communities.
