Hidden Beach at Marieta Islands to Reopen Next Week But With Restrictions Mexico News Daily | |

A popular beach that was closed to the public in May due to environmental damage will reopen next week but with some new restrictions.
La Playa del Amor, also known as Hidden Beach or the Beach of Love, located in the Marieta Islands off the coast of Nayarit, had surged in popularity in recent years but huge visitor numbers took their toll on the coral reefs.
A study by the University of Guadalajara found that the coral was dying and warned the beach could only support 625 visitors a day, well under the 2,500 who arrived during vacation periods.
The National Protected Areas Commission (Conanp) has decided that even 625 tourists is too many: it has placed a restriction of 116 per day.
That’s one of a number of new rules. The number of visitors in a group will not be allowed to exceed 15, gear such as fins, face masks and snorkels will be prohibited, no diving will be allowed and visits will be limited to 30 minutes in duration.
The beach, part of the Marieta Islands National Park, will close for two days a week for maintenance, management activities and monitoring.
