Newsletter and Projects from the Director of San Pancho Bird Observatory Team Angels/Luis E. Morales - San Pancho Bird Observatory | |
October 1, 2016 |
Dear friends and colleagues:
Thanks to your support and that of our more than 1800 subscribers that we have been able to deliver a strategy for the conservation of birds for almost 10 years and 5 years have passed since the Bird Observatory of San Pancho was created and we launched our first newsletter!

What an adventure! Both our ecological projects and my family are growing! Wendy and I are going to add a new baby to the family in December. Quetzal and Utsil are waiting for a new baby brother or sister.
We have come a long way in a short period of time - especially in view of our limited resources. Your generosity is the key to the success of the Organization and will continue to be vital that we are able to continue.
December is also the deadline for us to formalize our Ecological Center property if we gather enough subscribers to raise our down payment. This is a story that may be familiar to many of you who have participated in this trip:
For several years we have been developing Ecolodge Natural Habitat. The owners let us use the space in exchange for our workforce making improvements (we started with an abandoned house and little by little we have achieved a wonderful space, with a lot of hard work). Now the property has changed owner and along with the notary that oversees the operation we have agreed a price purchase discounted of 1,500,000 pesos ($83,500 USD) in five equal payments over the next year. The first payment of 300,000 pesos ($16,700 USD) is due the same week that our baby is due.
We always visualize that this hidden retreat at the foot of the forest over time would add a constant cash flow to support our projects. In addition, the site serves as a permanent headquarters for the Bird Observatory of San Pancho and as a meeting place for birds and research projects education classes which allows us to have a central housing to manage multiple tasks: supervision created by the Association for the Conservation of Birds (OASP), bird watching tours and cultural programs, access to our Sendero Capomo in addition to fund-raising activities of constant funds and having a seat for our educational programs and research.
Our goal is to teach conservation through example and invite guests, students and teachers to participate in a sustainable settlement is a unique opportunity. Have an ecological headquarters as part of the income stream ultimately, releasing some pressure of the fundraising staff, as well as providing a meeting place with other organizations that benefit local efforts providing a space when they need support and collaboration.
We are an integral part of an international effort to bird conservation in the Americas and this opportunity gives us stronger prospects for the future for many more years and generations of birders to come! Ask about our membership program to see how you can help us. Please consider becoming a member to support our conservation efforts. Your response to our request for Members will determine the viability of this commitment.
While the task is daunting (overwhelming!), we accept this challenge because we are fully aware of the increasing pressure that the growth of the human population puts every day in our birds and their habitats.
Other important news: In response to our commitment to conserve and protect the birds and their habitat, we have now completed the OASP conservation strategy that is our work to deliver our operational program called Project of Environmental Literature 2016-2019.
The implementation of this program will necessarily require changes in the scheduling of our ecotours for the 2016-2017 season and is forcing us to increase our efforts to fundraising in order to meet our objectives and deliver this new global and regional approach to conservation. The effort will have multiple positive measurable impacts on wildlife and local communities through the Sierra de Vallejo and Banderas Bay region.
Please take a look at our Birding Tours and do not hesitate to visit us or get in touch with us to learn more about our conservation work.
Once again I extend our sincere thanks on behalf of the team at OASP.
