Team Angels visited the newly opened Casa Gourmet and what a great addition to our community!

After the closing of Rizo's Supermarket on the Southside, we have been missing the imported items that we could normally find there - a little expensive, but available.

Now, in the same general neighborhood, the Casa Gourmet has just opened with a huge selection of products from all over the world including Oriental, Hindu, Arabic, American, Canadian, Italian and European. You can even request and order your specialty items.

The owner of Casa Gourmet, Gerardo Robles Lomeli, was the importer of the products previously sold at Rizo's and realized the importance of Puerto Vallarta's ex-pats and tourists to be able to find products "from home" that have not been available here.

You won't believe the great selection of products available in the comfortable air-conditioned space. We'll just name some of the items that don't seem to be available elsewhere here:

  • A whole aisle of pasta products, including gluten free; jars of Vlasic pickles, and others
  • A&W root beer and cream soda, diet and regular
  • Rice-a-Roni and other rice and potato convenience products
  • Hot and cold cereals including Grape Nuts, grits, oatmeal and Cream of Wheat
  • Betty Crocker pie crust mix; C&H brown sugar; Skippy peanut butter; iHop pancake syrup as well as Bisquick and other pancake flours
  • An incredible variety of Kettle potato chips and Snyder's pretzels, plus other snack chips and a large selection of crackers
  • Large boxes of chicken broth, regular and low sodium, Shake & Bake and assorted Bob's Red Mill flours and mixes; Taco Bell and Ortega taco shells
  • A whole wall of assorted seasoning packets including gravies, marinades, sauces and chili mixes; a great Asian section with wasabi in the tube, rice paper & sticks, water chestnuts, and even black bean sauce
  • Candies including red and grape vines; a complete section of tea products including no caffeine teas
  • Canned vegetables such as cream corn, green beans, lima beans and sauerkraut
  • Cleaning supplies, shampoos and products such as Fabreze and SOS pads.

But, there's a lot more so you'll have to go see for yourself.

The store is well organized and the prices are clearly displayed.

Summer hours are Monday - Saturday, 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Beginning in October, they will be open on Sundays, same hours.

At present, the only refrigerated section will be for drinks. Dairy items are planned to be added in the future as well as tables & chairs in the patio area for sandwiches, coffee and soft drinks.

The Grand Opening is planned for October. We'll keep you informed.

Stop in and say "hola" to the delightful Manager, Leonor Villegas, who always has a smile on her face.

Cash in dollars or pesos accepted as well as major credit cards.

Casa Gourmet is located in Old Town Vallarta at 130 Ignacio L Vallarta, Local 4, in the Rivera Molina Plaza, corner of Aquiles Serdan (next to Mailboxes, etc.). Phone is 222-1940. Email is casadelgourmet@hotmail.com. Facebook is Casa Gourmet Puerto Vallarta.
