Low registration at the high school level and dropouts due to economic need and teenage pregnancy are a few of many challenges for the Mexican educational system. The majority of students today still study through the 9th grade.

Fundación Punta de Mita acknowledges these as the major challenges they are, and continuously works to overcome these obstacles and improve que education level and quality of life of the young population of our local communities.

According to a 2017 study conducted by Fundación Punta de Mita in Corral del Risco, Emiliano Zapata and Higuera Blanca, this is the first generation to study beyond middle school, and we honestly believe that this improvement is, in great part, thanks to the efforts conducted by local non profit organizations.

Fundación Punta de Mita has launched the “Compas” (Buddies) program with the aim of increasing the number of students graduating from the high schools of Corral de Risco and Higuera Blanca, through:

  • Weekly classes at the high schools in Punta de Mita and Higuera Blanca
  • Strengthening of leadership skills
  • Promoting a spirit of collaboration with community service projects
  • Entrepreneurship, considering the local development and new technologies
  • Mentoring and guidance to families

The goal is that young people develop a broader vision for their future by having access to more information about the possibilities that are within reach.

The program has already registered 8 students, and Fundación Punta de Mita is inviting you to sponsor more young people! With your participation, you’ll be helping them finish high school, and therefore have better opportunities for their personal and professional futures.

The cost is US$2,620 ($50,000 pesos) per student, which includes the weekly classes, economic support for supplies, personal mentoring, family guidance, college visits, a leadership retreat at Entre Amigos, and additional leadership and service activities.
