Great Meows!!! Hooray, Yippee, Estupendo!!!
Time for the kitties to celebrate! |
We are thrilled to announce that PuRR Project has received notice from the IRS that our non-profit organization, PuRR Project USA Inc., has received its 501(c)3 status.
We will now be able to provide donors who reside in the U.S. with tax-deductible receipts for their donations. Simply provide us with your address and our Registered Agent in the States, Carla Manning, will send you your receipt.
Yes, it took a lot of patience and hard work but hopefully it will pay dividends down the road in increased contributions that will help us continue to fund the shelter and provide long-term care for it’s feline population.
We could not have accomplished this without the support of Fred and Linda Marshall, who are known for their generosity to animal related charities in our Bay.
To celebrate, the Marshalls have announced the Paws United For PuRRS Campaign... a Two-For-One Matching Grant to PuRR Project up to $1,000 USD. This means that as soon as we receive the first $500 in donations, we will receive $1,000 from Fred and Linda. All you have to do is go to the website and click on the PayPal button and note that your donation needs a receipt sent to (your address).
Or even better, we can save a lot on PayPal fees if you make out your check to PuRR Project USA Inc. and mail to:
PuRR Project USA, Inc.
24860 Rivers Edge Road
Millsboro, DE 19966
This is the perfect time to make your donation before the end of the 2012 tax year!!
Kitty BINGO
PuRR volunteers vamp with the cast of Rocky Horror Show |
The cast of Rocky Horror Show (now appearing at The Palm) made a cameo appearance at PuRR’s Kitty BINGO at Nacho Daddy on Wednesday. Dr. Frank-N-Furter (the Sweet Transvestite), Magenta, Riff Raff and, of course, Rocky Horror himself, led the crowd in doing “The Time Warp” and “Hot Patootie, Bless My soul”.
It was a great way to cap off a fun night with lots of winners who got to shout “Oh Brad!” instead of the usual “MEOW”. Plus... the 50/50 raffle also had bonus prizes of 1,000 pesos worth of treatments from Artepil Spa and 2 Tickets to Rocky Horror Show, courtesy of Tammy at Nacho Daddy.
HUGE thanks to Kathleen Palmer as Magenta and Mary Catherine Amelotte as Columbia for a great job of calling the numbers.
We’ve got lots more fun and surprises left up our sleeve so mark you calendars and join us at the next BINGO on Wednesday, December 5, 6:00 pm at Nacho Daddy on Basilo Badillo in Old Town.
The crowd grows in number each week as word gets out, so come early for a good seat!
Adoption Update
Casey prepared for his trip to a new home! |
The PuRR staff spends a lot of time caring for our kitties and geting them ready for their big adventure out of the shelter to hopefully find a Forever Home.
We rejoice when they are adopted but often miss them and wonder how they are faring with their new family... so we LOVE it when we get mail like this recent one one from Elena.
Casey was adopted at Plaza Marina one year ago and had a long car trip the next day to Mexico City where he is obviously one lucky kitty!
"Dear Purr Project Staff, Hi. My name is Elena Sandoval, I live in Mexico city. My mom went to Puerto Vallarta on a business trip on November 2011, and she adopted a beautiful cat named Casey. I am writing to you because I want to congratulate you for the lovely labor you guys do. Besides, I'm attaching some pictures of Casey, he is so spoiled you have no idea. My sister and I love him, and even when I was more like a dog person, I fell in love with Casey the minute we hugged him."
Fall Clean-up Day Report
Everyone at the ranch pitched in... even Jose’s adorable little girl! |
Everyone at the ranch pitched in... even Jose's adorable little girl!
Thanks to all the volunteers who spent some long days helping us spruce up the shelter after the long, wet summer.
Fortunately, the weather has cooled some and we had lots of refreshments on hand.
The large store room was thouroughly cleaned and ORGANIZED by Cindy, Connie and Stephanie, while Marilyn and Bama tackled the yard and Don Edourdo was in charge of the power washer! Erin and Laura scrubbed the clinic from head to toe. Lynn, Livia and Leighton grabbed paint brushes and helped paint the new casita. Jose and Hilda burned the huge piles of brush and tree trimmings. Also, thanks to Cindy's donation of tiles, the new casita will soon be tiled and ready for its new "special needs" inhabitants.
Pam Sullivan will be our new Shelter Tour Leader starting Wednesday, December 5. The meeting place will be at the Starbucks in Plaza Peninsula at 10:00 am.
If you are going to be in town and would like to spend a few hours at the shelter, contact Pam at toursoftexas@hotmail.com for more info and to reserve your spot. If you have a vehicle and can take a few passengers along, please let her know!
From the Board
Julie and one of her many rescued kitties |
For several years, Julie Bunker was THE face of PuRR Project. She was literally a one-woman band, working long hours handling everything from administrative duties to fund-raising to taking visitors to the shelter to interacting with our vets.
Recently, Julie announced her intention to step back from those responsibilities and move on with her life in another direction. We are so grateful to Julie for all her hard work. She laid the foundation for what PuRR Project has become and we wish her much success in the future.
PuRR Project now has many faces. Our faithful, hard-working volunteer base has increased allowing us to take on more community activities and make significant improvements in the shelter.
We have reorganized our administration and, most importantly, our non-profit organization, PuRR Project USA, Inc., has received its 501(c)(3) status, so we are now able to provide donors who reside in the U.S. with tax-deductible receipts for their donations.
We are excited about these changes and, with the generous support of our many donors, we are eager to take PuRR Project toward even more success in the future.
Thanks for your continued support,
Marilyn Khan, President
Erin Jones, Vice-President
Joanne Bryla, Secretary
Linda Brasseal, Adoption Coordinator
