It can happen anywhere... you stop watching where you're going for a minute (or maybe you had one too many tequilas), and suddenly you find yourself on the ground with some damage to your body and your dignity. But what do you do if you think your bumps and bruises need some medical attention?

Almost all hotels and resorts in Puerto Vallarta have a house doctor on call 24 hours a day. Your hotel doctor will be bilingual and able to come and see you in your room or suite so that your little accident takes minimal time out of your vacation. The hotel doctor will also arrange for any prescriptions needed to be delivered to you.

Farmacia Guadalajara, with locations throughout Puerto Vallarta, offers on-site, consultations with a doctor on several days of the week. It's very convenient and the best part? There is no charge for your consultation with the doctor, regardless of whether a prescription is needed or not.

If things are looking a little more serious, private hospitals in Puerto Vallarta, like Amerimed in the Marina, San Javier Hospital in the Hotel Zone and CMQ Hospital in Old Town, all have emergency rooms that tourists may access. You will be able to find assistance in English and will find that the equipment and care available is very similar in quality to what you would expect at home.

The best advice? Always remember to purchase travel insurance in your home country prior to going on vacation in Mexico or any other destination. And watch where you're walking after that third tequila.
