Rescuing Marine Giants in Mexico (RABEN)

Ecología y Conservación de Ballenas (ECOBAC), is a Mexican non-profit organization, devoted mainly to research, protection and conservation of Mexico’s natural resources, specially the Humpback Whale in Banderas Bay.

Our mission is to contribute to the conservation of Mexico’s marine resources, particularly of the humpback whale and its habitat.

ECOBAC's main objectives are:

• Encourage marine mammal research projects in the coasts of Jalisco and Nayarit, a very important area for the conservation of species since it´s the entrance to the Sea of Cortes.
• Promote the exchange of knowledge and information in order to benefit the conservation and protection of wildlife.
• Encourage protection, conservation and information actions for the sustainable management of natural resources, especially cetaceans and their habitat.
• Create a wildlife conservation, information and research center.
• Promote the training of specialized ecotourism guides with courses, scholarships and workshops in order to encourage sustainable development and the conservation of wildlife.

ECOBAC has four main action plans:

• Isabel Island National Park Humpback Whale Photoidentification Catalog
• Collaboration with North Pacific national and international catalogs

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

• Good navigation practices campaing during whale season
• I Do Care for Whales Campaign
• BALLENARTE Conservation Festival

CONSERVATION PROJECTS

• Large Whales Disentanglement Workshops
• National Coordination of the Mexican Whale Disentanglement Network (RABEN)

ECOTOURISM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

• Whale watching tour operators training workshops
• Diffusion of the Mexican Whale Watching Regulation
