About Us

The Sunshine Sanctuary is a privately run animal sanctuary that mostly caters to dogs. It is run by a caring woman who takes in animals that have been abandoned, mistreated, neglected, or injured, as well as those that have resulted from uncontrolled breeding or have been surrendered or dumped by their owners.

My Personal Mission Statement:

  • Provide a safe and loving environment for dogs in need.
  • Rescue and rehabilitate dogs who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected.
  • Find forever homes for rescued dogs with responsible and caring owners.
  • Promote responsible pet ownership through education and outreach programs.
  • Advocate for the humane treatment of all animals.
  • Create a world where every dog has a loving home and is treated with respect and compassion.

About Julie

Julie is an animal rescuer originally from Chicago who has been living in Puerto Vallarta since 1984. She founded the Sunshine Sanctuary six years ago as a one-woman operation. Julie's journey of helping animals began with feeding cats on Isla Cuale, but it quickly expanded to rescuing stray dogs and cats in need of help.

Her passion for helping animals has grown to become a small animal rescue operation located in North Puerto Vallarta. Julie's dedication to the animals she rescues has enabled the Sunshine Sanctuary to provide a safe haven for dogs and cats in need of love, attention, medical care, and forever homes. Please consider donating to assist these lovely animals.
