World Food Day 2014: Family Farming (FAOVideo)
Attaining world peace and sustainable development are today impossible without wiping out hunger, said Director General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Jose Graziano da Silva, in a UN high level meeting.
Da Silva said it is inadmissible for food security not to be a main priority; it must be so, he said while refering to the link between hunger and conflicts.
Da Silva made these remarks during the sideline event Achieving Zero Hunger:Showing the Impact, organized by the governments of the Netherlands, Ireland, Mexico, FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Program.
He reminded participants that there are still 805 million people suffering chronic undernourishment.
