Happy Valentine's Day Meows from PuRR Project Linda Brasseal - PuRR Project | |
February 13, 2013 |
When we think of Valentine's Day…it's all about finding the perfect match, the perfect mate, the perfect LOVE…and sometimes the PuRRfect CAT!!
This picture of Adolfo & Mama Gorda is worth a thousand words!!! |
That happened last week when Adolfo came along with his brother, Eddie, to check out the shelter.
Apparently it was love at first lick, and now Mama Gorda has found her Forever Home.
Another friendly adult, Big Orange, recently went home with Svetlana Hoppe to join her new kitten.
We understand these older cats may take a period of adjustment to their new surroundings, but a little patience produces amazing results!
Visitors often ask us why such friendly & loving cats were never adopted.
There are many reasons. Some of our adult cats were in the shelter before we set up our adoption program almost 3 years ago and just never got a good shot at being adopted.
Then there is the undeniable fact that cute young kittens are what most people want and since we have limited space at our booths, those are the ones we must take.
And, sometimes those kittens just get passed over and eventually have to be released into the yard to live out their lives.
We are always thrilled when a visitor to the shelter falls in love with one of our adult cats and decides to adopt.

Sponsor a Cat
Jennifer and Bill Warren from Oklahoma wrote to us before their visit to Vallarta in early February:
"We just came across the website and instantly fell in love. I have six cats of my own in the US, so adopting is probably not an option (although I would love to), but we would love to visit and make a donation. Please let me know if and when that would be possible. Good luck, and God Bless," Jennifer.
They not only visited the shelter, but decided to become Virtual Parents and set about choosing their new cat to sponsor….and as often happens….a cat chose THEM. A sweet orange & white fella attached himself to Bill and that was it! They decided to call him Boomer.
If you are not able to physically adopt a cat and take it home with you but would like to help, you can also "virtually" adopt for only $120 a year or $10 a month!
You can either visit our PuRR Project shelter to let a cat select you or pick one of the beautiful residents pictured on our website.
We will e-mail you periodic updates with photos of your "adopted" feline!
Hint: You may want to consider the gift of Virtual Adoption as a birthday present to other cat lovers in your life!
Who could resist this Lovey face?? |
Featured Feline
Local author, artist and PuRR supporter, Lisa Love, found this little tiger kitty when she heard his cries of distress coming from the garbage can where he had been dumped.
Unable to walk away, she fished him out, took him home and fed him for several days.
Unfortunately, her other three cats did not approve of their new roommate, so she appealed to PuRR for help.
Of course we named him "Lovey" and he spent several weeks in our clinic with lots of good food and good lovin' from volunteers and visitors.
Now healthy, neutered & vaccinated, he is ready to find his Forever Home!
If you are interested in adopting one of our many rescued kitties, come see us at the Plaza Marina any Friday between 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, at the Paradise Community Center Market on Saturdays from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm or email us at adopt@purrproject.com.

Kitty BINGO at Nacho Daddy
WOW!!
January 16th & 30th were both unbelievably great nights of Kitty BINGO.
Many thanks to Sean and Tammy and their great staff at Nacho Daddy, to all the vendors like Casa Isabel, Hot Frida, Sea Monkey & R Salon who donated prizes – and to everyone who made both nights a huge success for the cats residing at PuRR.
The house was full and people were even playing BINGO at the tables on the street.
Of course we understand that not everyone is there because they are "cat people"…….we know the real draw is the great ENTERTAINMENT at our half-time show by the likes of Kim Kuzma and the fabulous Patsy Cline (aka Mikki Prost!).
Patsy sang all the classics like "Walking After Midnight" and "Crazy"…..plus she honored us by calling the numbers as well!

Shelter Tour Info
From Pam Sullivan, Cat Guide & Tour Coordinator 2013:
Winter tours are every Wednesday and will go through March 27th. YOU MUST HAVE A CONFIRMED RESERVATION. Space is VERY limited!
If you must cancel, please do so (no later than) the night before the tour. That will give someone else a chance to go in your place.
DEPARTURE TIMES: 10:00 am, Starbucks at Peninsula Plaza. 10:30 am, Wal Mart Entrance in Nuevo Vallarta. ARRIVE EARLY….We leave ON TIME as multiple pick ups are involved. We usually return to WalMart about 12:30 pm and Peninsula Plaza about 1:00 pm. (Kitties like to siesta in the afternoon!)
WHAT TO EXPECT: The adult cats live harmoniously on 2 1/2 acres of garden and sheltered areas. There are no cages; only "casitas" for the quarantined, kittens, acclimated, and new intakes. The kitties are on a special diet and we will provide some food for you to feed them. They will be elated to see you! We will show you around the facility then turn you loose to "bond, pet and enjoy" the family! Wear comfy cat-friendly clothes and bring your camera and bottle of water.

THINGS TO REMEMBER: Shuffle slowly and try not to step on anyone's tail.
Shut doors behind you. Some cats are segregated for a reason.
Wash your hands with sanitizer often, especially if you go in the clinic.
Feed kitties only their "special food."
Make friends with the shy. You are helping us make them more adoptable.
If you find a cat you want to take home, we can help with the process. Cats can easily go back to the US and Canada!
Cats pick YOU, you don’t pick THEM. Sit in a chair and see who sits in your lap!
You can also "virtually adopt" a kitty on our website if you can't take one home.
PRICE OF THE TOUR IS BY DONATION: At this time, the tour is offered by donation only. MONEY is our FAVORITE!!! We also accept pet toys, Costco Kirkland Cat Food, Frontline products, Diatomaceous Earth (food grade only), non-clumping kitty litter, Clorox, cleaning supplies and of course… did we mention, MONEY?
