Special Screening of 'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry' at Los Mangos Library

Team Angels - Biblioteca Los Mangos
February 16, 2013

Organized by Pilar Perez and Pulpo Rojo, Biblioteca Los Mangos (Puerto Vallarta's Public Library) is proud to announce the viewing opportunity for "Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry" (Ai Weiwei: Sin Pena), the film about the famous artist and Chinese activist.

In recent years, Weiwei has captured international attention both for his ambitious work and political provocations.

Ai Weiwei is China's most famous international artist and its most outspoken domestic critic.

Against a backdrop of strict censorship and an unresponsive legal system, Ai expresses himself and organizes people through art and social media.

In response, Chinese authorities have shut down his blog, beat him up, bulldozed his newly built studio, and held him in secret detention.

Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry is the inside story of a dissident for the digital age who inspires global audiences and blurs the boundaries of art and politics.

First-time director Alison Klayman gained unprecedented access to Ai while working as a journalist in China. Her detailed portrait provides a nuanced exploration of contemporary China and one of its most compelling public figures.

Starring Ai Weiwei, Danqing Chen and Ying Gao, this film was written and produced by Alison Klayman.

Admission is free on Monday, February 18, to begin promptly at 6:30 pm.

Join us for this special screening of the winning 2012 Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival.

There will be an introduction by the curator and art critic, Jeff Kelley, with artists Hung Liu and Cristhian Rios.

After the screening, join in on a short session of questions and answers.
