The International Festival of Altruism will take place on Sunday, May 5th, from 6:00 until 10:00 pm at the CasaMagna Marriott Gardens in Marina Vallarta.

PuRR Project is THRILLED to announce that we were chosen this year to be one of the 24 local charities to share equally in 100% of the proceeds from this event. We are teamed up with local orphanage Casa Hogar and what could be better that kids & kitties???!!!

Advance tickets are only 300 pesos and we MUST sell our allotment to be eligible for next year. So if you are a regular at this event, or would like to experience it for the first time, PLEASE contact us for tickets. Bring a friend and an empty stomach!

This will be the 9th year that American Consular Agent, Kelly Trainor, and the Marriott Hotel have sponsored this very special event. It could be called "A Taste of Vallarta" since 40 of the best local restaurants will be there with plenty of food for event goers to sample: Daquiri Dicks, Café des Artistes, Trio, La Palapa, No Way Jose, PortoBello & Los Chatos Pastelerias just to name a few! Plus there’s beer, wine, music, dancing, games, and free massages! Your tickets includes all of this. Contact Bama at info@purrproject.com or Marilyn at exkhan@usfamily.net to reserve a ticket.

PuRR Project 2014 Calendar

Is YOUR PuRR kitty ready to be the Cover Girl (or Boy) for next year's PuRR Calendar???

If you adopted a cat or kitten from PuRR Project anytime in the last few years, we'd like to give you the opportunity to have it featured on one of the months for the 2014 calendar.

Last year's calendar was our first and it was a great success and raised a lot of pesos as a result. It was beautiful and will be hard to top….but we’re gonna’ try! We can't do it without YOU, though.

The photos you send us need to be:

• Shot with your camera's highest quality (300dpi is best) & largest size setting, with at least the face of your subject in clear focus. If you're unsure, send it to us and we'll let you know if it can be printed in large format. (Photos shot with cell phones often don't meet the standards for large print that we need.)
• Not digitally altered, cropped or reduced in size in any way, we need the original as it was shot, in full; our talented graphic designer will take care of adjustments if needed (Please be careful with programs such as Picassa or iPhoto etc during the import from your camera to your computer as they are often set to reduce images for use on the web and may automatically reduce your image to a size we won't be able to use in print; instructions can be provided on how to transfer pics from your camera to your computer without any loss if you need them.)
• Due to the size of your pics (if they are shot using our guidelines) you may have to send them one at a time or only a few together at once as many email accounts have limits to how many Mb you can send in one email. Don't worry, you can send us many emails, just be sure to title them accordingly.
• But most importantly, have fun taking pics of your beloved furry family member and send away! Perhaps, you already have a winning shot somewhere that you took a while back. Either way, we'll be happy to receive your entries.

The deadline is June 30th so get out your cameras and start capturing those KODAK moments of your cat posing…..yeah, we know cats don't pose. Submit as many photos as you want. We'll also need your "story" if your feline is chosen. Send to info@purrproject.com and we'll be in touch.

Featured Feline

Zac was one of a trio of tiny kitties left in a box in a vacant lot where one of our volunteers regularly feeds a group of feral cats.

They all were flea infested and had eye infections, pretty standard for most of the abandoned little ones.

It took several weeks in our clinic before they were healthy enough to move into the nursery and boy did they like the freedom of being able to climb and play in there!

As the only male, Zac is the largest and has now been neutered and ready for adoption. Zoe and Zelda are just as adorable, are gaining weight and will soon be ready for spaying and their turn to find Forever Homes.

You can check out Zac or any of the many other kitties every Friday from 11 - 2 at our adoption post at the Plaza Marina, right in front of the Comercial Mexicana.

Donald & Daisy are eager to get OUT and find their Forever Homes!

Marina Market Thursdays

Many of you may have already checked out the new Market being held at the Marina Malecon every Thursday night from 5-9 pm.

It has been a great success with over 160 vendors participating and will run through May.

PuRR plans to have a booth there for the next few weeks and will NOT be at the Community Center market on Saturdays during that time.

I don't have exact dates as it is an experiment and we are trying to be flexible and see if we can reach a new segment of the local population.

We WILL have kittens there ready for adoption and will also have lots of PuRR logo T-shirts and shopping bags to sell.

The PuRR booth will be located at the end of the marina near Chappy’s Sport's Bar and La Terraza Restaurant.

So come on by to see us there!

Adoption Update: "Suerte"

Last Fall, Dave Robertson was on his weekly visit to the shelter when he heard cries from outside the fence. He found this handsome little fella' hiding in the bushes outside the PuRR shelter, scared, skinny & crying for attention.

Of course, he was welcomed into the fold and with some good food & vet care, he was soon ready for adoption.

He was named "Suerte" because he was "lucky" to have been found.

He was quickly adopted but returned a week later by the family who said he was urinating on the floor. After tests revealed no urinary infection (often a source of peeing outside the litter box) and no other obvious signs of a health problem, he was fostered for several weeks by a volunteer who reported he had perfect litter box manners!

Then he was introduced to Connie Kelly who fell head-over-heels immediately!! She had been waiting for just this opportunity to adopt a new companion and "Skippy" has now found his Forever Home here in Vallarta.

She reports that he is a source of constant amusement, endless energy and is a happy kitty at last!! Meow!

Muchas Gracias!!

Now that PuRR Project Bingo has ended for the season, we want to take a minute to thank everyone who helped us make it such a successful event.

Tammy and Sean and all the gang at Nacho Daddy provided the perfect venue and kept us fed and watered through all 15 bingo nights ~ thanks for your excellent service.

The games would not have been nearly as much fun without numbers caller extraordinaire, Kathleen Palmer. Many thanks for your willingness to give up your Wednesday nights to raise pesos for our cats.

We are so grateful to all the entertainers who took the microphone and kept the crowd laughing, singing and dancing at halftime ~ Miss Conception, Chi Chi Rones, Beverly Fairchild, Joanna, Kim Kuzma, Mikki Prost, Marcella Castellanos and the salsa dancers, the cast of 'Rocky Horror Picture Show,' and Todd and Gaye Ringness (a/k/a Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton). You are all absolute joys to work with.

A huge 'thank you' to all the local vendors who donated prizes—restaurant gift certificates, t-shirts, massages, theatre tickets, mani/pedi's, haircuts, art gallery gift cards, bakery goods, yoga classes — far too many to mention in this small space. We heard many favorable comments about our prizes, and we are so grateful for your generosity.

Most of all, we want to thank all of you who came and played bingo with us — particularly those who never missed a night. Your contributions will go a long way to feed and care for the 125+ cats at our sanctuary this summer.

The PuRR ladies are taking some time off to regroup and plan for next fall. Wherever you are in the world, have a great summer…and come play bingo with us again on Wednesday nights at Nacho Daddy next fall!
