Rotary Clubs From US & Canada Join Forces to Help Jaltemba Bay Rotary Projects

The Rotary Club of Jaltemba Bay, District 4150, serves the communities of La Peñita de Jaltemba, Guayabitos, Los Ayala, La Colonia, El Capomo, AltaVista, Villa Morelos, Chula Vista, Las Varas, El Monteón, Chacala, Lo de Marcos and Zacualpan in Riviera Nayarit.

Justo Sierra Water Project Breaks Ground
Last Friday, April 19, Club President Dr. Abraham López Sánchez, President-elect 2013-14, Octavian Figueroa and Director of New Generations Committee, Sergio Galicia broke ground on the Justo Sierra Primary School project.

The Project "Purified Drinking Water" at Justo Sierra Elementary School consists of two phases, the installation of water system including a cistern and water purification system and a remodel of kitchen and outdoor lunch tables and benches.

Wilma and Gerry Webb from the Rotary Club of Sunshine Coast, British Colombia, Canada gave a club-to-club donation along with a grant from the district for the water purification system.

The Rotary Club of Middletown and District 5130, with a grant from The Rotary Foundation, are providing for the purchase of kitchen equipment and The Rotary Club of Berkeley, California, is bringing a team of 29 volunteers and $60,000 dollars to remodel the kitchen and build tables and benches for the children's lunch area.

Berkeley Rotary Volunteers Arrive in La Peñita

A contingent of Volunteers arrived from Berkeley Rotary Club to help with CONALEP computer room, Justo Sierra Elementary School and the local Community Cultural Center in La Peñita.
The advance team begun by turning the local gym at CONALEP into a carpentry shop where they will build computer desks for 25 new computers to be installed in the new computer center at CONALEP #257.

The computers are courtesy of a generous Matching Grant from the Rotary Foundation, Middletown Rotary Club and District 5130 in Northern California.

Rotary / Los Amigos Recycling Grant Update

The Recycling Committee of Los Amigos de Jaltemba has been busy during the time of visit of the Canadian and American tourists building more collection bins and educational programs.

This year ended with a garden playground in Lima de Abajo thanks to a grant from the Rotary Club Del Norte, District 5130 and The Rotary Foundation.

Learning for Life

Our Learning for Life Program ends the year with a course on May 19 for scholarship students from Rotary, Amigos de Jaltemba and Cambiando Vidas.

Thanks to Chacala residents, Paul and Elaine Newkirk, workshop, Debbie Walton, returns to teach "Learning for Life."

In this last course, each group will focus students from Chacala and La Penita on their plan of work for all of next year as a service group.

Eighty students from Cambiando Vidas in Chacala and Amigos de Jaltemba will continue to benefit from these seminars on life skills to enhance their leadership skills that Debbie teaches.
