Full Calendar of Events for May in and Around Puerto Vallarta

Barbara Peters - Galeria Vallarta
May 2, 2013

May is one of our most beautiful and event filled months of the year and it is unfortunate that so many people leave for the north early and miss our celebrations.

We welcome all our new visitors and local residents who can enjoy these special events and help our local charities.

On Saturday, May 4, you can celebrate the start of Cinco de Mayo, a traditional Mexican holiday at The Paradise Community Center with two of Banderas Bay's most popular musicians, Jorge Acosta and Eduardo Leon, for a unique evening of entertainment with Jorge's smooth baritone voice and Eduardo's Flamenco guitar as well as an opportunity to support CompassionNet. The gates open at 6:00 pm with the Mexican food court and Paradise Cantina open to the public. The Cinco de Mayo concert begins at 8:00 pm. Advance tickets are 200 pesos or 250 at the door which includes a margarita or other beverage.

On Sunday, May 5, is the date for the 9th annual Altruism Festival to be held at the beachfront gardens of the Marriott CasaMagna Hotel starting at 6 pm. The festival will feature a wide range of activities including food demonstrations from more than 40 of Puerto Vallarta's finest restaurants, live music and dance, and cultural presentations. Admission price is 300 pesos in advance and 400 at the door. All proceeds raised from the festival will be evenly distributed among the 24 benefiting charities.

The Mini Kiteboard World Cup, a kitesurfing competition that will assemble the best international competitors of this sport when it takes place on the waters in front of the Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta on May 9 - 12. Sean Farley from Colima and ex world champion of the specialty, will be in Riviera Nayarit to recieve – unaffortunately not to compete - a large number of world-class participants from the United States, Canada, France and approximately 20 other countries. Kitesurfing is a dynamic, young, athletic, and appealing sport. Riders mount a surfboard that is powered by a kite, a combination that allows athletes to attain high speeds on the water and make spectacular leaps. Enjoy the show that these riders offer in the bay. We recommend to visit Hard Rock Hotel from 1:00 pm till 5:00 pm because it is the right moment for the riders to get good winds. Entrance will be allowed for free through the gardens of the hotel. Learn to kitesurf with the half hour classes that will be taught no-charge on an special area.

May 10 is the traditional date for Mother´s Day in Mexico and is celebrated with special dinners in our many fine restaurants, fresh flowers and special gift items such as jewelry or clothing. You can find many unique handmade gifts, pastries and specialty foods at the Saturday market at the Paradise Center, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. This is the only market that will continue all through the summer.

From May 15-31, is Restaurant Week for the ninth year in a row, some of the most recognized restaurants in Puerto Vallarta will once again be offering special three-course menus, with three choices per course, at fixed prices of either 189 or 299 pesos. Thirty-five restaurants will participate in this year's edition of one of Vallarta's most important culinary events, seven of which are first-time participants. Many venues will also feature live entertainment to enhance your dining pleasure.

Puerto Vallarta's "Best Asian Restaurant" Archie's Wok invites you to take advantage of their Early Bird Specials. From 2:00 until 6:00 pm, Monday through Saturday, take 50% off your second entree and enjoy 2x1 on National labels of liquor and non-alcoholic drinks when you pay in cash.
