Senior Citizen Discount Card for ExPats in Vallarta
The INAPAM Senior Citizen Discount Card is available to national or foreign persons who have reached the age of sixty (60) and who have residency status in Mexico.
It provides significant discounts on a number of items, such as bus and domestic airline fares, movies, museums, and some restaurant and retail purchases, including pharmaceuticals.
The card is provided free, and it does not need to be renewed or replaced unless lost.
The card is correctly known as an INAPAM Card. INAPAM stands for Insituto Nacional de las Personas Adultas Mayores (National Institute for Older Adults). This is the same card as the one formerly called the INSEN Card. If you have an old INSEN card, it is still valid.
The INAPAM Card is obtained by visiting the DIF office. DIF stands for Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (Integrated Family Development), and the office is no longer located behind Sam´s and Wal-Mart, but has been moved to the site of the old regional hospital. The address is Corregidora 105, Col. Barrio Santa María, C.P. 48351. (Read update below)
The entrance is via Paseo de las Palmas, which is off the Libramiento between Avenida Francisco Villa and the Tunnel. Once you make the turn, you can see the building with the DIF sign. If you are traveling by local bus, it will stop on the Libramiento right there at the turn-off.
There are differing views of what documents you need to get an INAPAM card. The following have recently been confirmed for doing so in Puerto Vallarta:
• The original and a copy of your current residency document, formerly FM-3 or FM-2.
• Proof of your domicile (comprobante de domicilio), which can be satisfied by the presentation of an original and a copy of the most recent electric, water, or telephone bill. They understand that the name of the person on the bill may not be the same as the name of the applicant, i.e., you rent from an owner whose name is on the bill.
• The original and a copy of your birth certificate.
• 2 recent photographs, child size (tamañoinfantil).
The telephone number is (322) 225-9936, Extension 163, and the office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
(Note: As of the date of this writing, the blank forms were not available, so no applications could be taken. However, forms had been ordered from Guadalajara. The telephone number provided above can be used to ensure that they have the forms on hand, before you make the trip).
