On the occasion of the holiday period, the Municipal Government, through the Commissioner of the Preventive Police, Highways, Municipal Fire and Civil Protection, launched "Operation Safe Holiday Vallarta 2013," involving more than 50 units and about 900 security forces for the safety and security of tourists as well as the citizens of Puerto Vallarta.

The aim of the operation is to implement preventive activities to reduce or eliminate risks that may arise during the season, using the Incident Command System (ICS) as the operating mechanism and coordination to safeguard the physical integrity of individuals.

Regarding Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection and Fire, it was reported to have strengthened surveillance in areas of beaches and major tourist areas as well as at the entrances and exits of the city, to assist motorists and pedestrians.

To this end, rescue units have been installed at strategic points, such as the entrance to Boca de Tomates, next to the Naval Museum, and opposite Los Arcos in order to shorten response times when an incident is registered. It has also increased the number of lifeguards and paramedics in tourist areas and the Malecon.

Preventive police mentioned that their constant foot patrols and land tours include not only the tourist areas, but also shopping centers, banks and exchange houses in the different colonies of the town to prevent offenses. Road patrols serve in areas that have been targeted as having heavy vehicle traffic during peak hours.
