Working toward the first conference on human trafficking in Puerto Vallarta, the Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking met at De Santos restaurant where Magaly Fregoso Ortiz, President of the System for Integral Family Development (DIF), thanked the committee and audience for helping to ensure the rights of children in our society.

The Human Trafficking Conference addresses strategies for the defense of children and adolescents in modern slavery and "building bridges with a link between Government, Society and Academia."

There will be a fundraising "Dinner With a Cause" which will take place at Club Nitro on October 16, which will include entertainment by comedian and Cuban singer Virulo, beginning at 8:00 pm.

The Human Trafficking Conference will be held on November 21st and 22nd, 2013, headquartered at the Crown Paradise Resort Puerto Vallarta.

Magaly Fregoso Ortiz stressed that one of the objectives of the strategic plan for 2013 is to be dedicatated to the "Year of the Child" in laying the foundation for infants' rights to be respected and promoted in Puerto Vallarta as a destination who cares for their children.

The conference will be held in conjunction with World Children's Day (November 20) and will be aimed at academics, researchers, NGOs, government officials, governments, private sector professionals, international governmental and nongovernmental organizations, students, and the general public in order to work on issues directly or indirectly related to human trafficking.

The aim of the conference is to strengthen partnerships between institutions of different sectors of society and government, including  open forums where speakers participate and exchange experiences from their fields against trafficking and to promote strategies, programs, models and actions for prevention, care, research, legal protection and defense of children and adolescents.

To date, confirmed speakers include Dr. Antonia Chávez, CUCSH Investigator; Blanca Barrón, representing the Attorney General of Jalisco; María Sol Berenice, Special Prosecutor for Crimes of Violence against Women and Trafficking (FEVIMTRA); and Eva Reyes, of the Unit for Human Trafficking, Migrant Children and Gender.

Club Nitro is located at the Crown Paradise Club Resort Puerto Vallarta, Av. de las Garzas S/N, just south of the Cruise Dock.
