Our one room school, Jardin de Niños: Luis Pasteur, needs town water and sewage and the odd thing is that it is only one block away.

The kinder school is built into a hill, so when the water is brought in by truck, twice a month, it goes to the top of the hill, where it is difficult to access.

When the water is gone, it's gone. Food, hands, dishes and food prep areas are not cleaned properly. Also, there is no water for flushing toilets and cleaning floors and tables, etc.

At present, we at KinderAide have been fundraising to build a kitchen and bring the water down to the school, however, we have not been able to reach our goal. We have some donated tile, but no paint yet, but that is hardly a concern when there is no water for parts of the month.

We have been busy helping Kinder Schools in La Peñita since January 2011.

We are an independent, non-profit group of volunteers, whose primary goal is to assist Kinder Schools in La Peñita.

Our goal is to help children in their quest to learn English, with the assistance of volunteer teachers and donated school supplies.

If you can help, please contact Jane Fellows at (322) 104-0328, or email her at jane.fellows@telus.net.

It's a long walk to the water...

Update: KinderAide representatives Jane Fellows and Karen Decker went to Compostela on Monday, February 27, to the Audiencia Publica. They had the pleasure of meeting with the Presidente of Compostela and the Director of Development, Jose Alfaro.

They discussed the lack of water, among other issues, at the Jardin de Niños: Luis Pasteur kinder school in La Peñita.

KinderAide and their presentation were very well received and supported! A follow-up investigation visit will take place shortly. There are a number of projects that may be entitled to the 3 to 1 government incentive. That is for every peso KinderAide has for a project, the various levels of governments will put 3 pesos in. However, at this late time of the tourist season, it will be extremely difficult to raise funds.
