As chair of the Cancer Walk, I thank you for your support. WOW! 400 people walked and we raised over 100,000 pesos.

Jaime Horton looked at the party of Pink. "We've had some pretty good events and parties in our town" he said. "But when people tell tales and stories about the big ones... well, they'll talk about this one."

The ticket sales were brisk. The Walk was absolutely stunning. The bras, hats and costumes were unique. The walk and the street party were in fact sheer joy.

There are too many people to thank. However the core team, Patty, Hinde, Flo, Anna, Jackie, Yvonne, and of course Tara needs a hand. My oh my, what a beautiful event.

Anna and Jackie were amazing ticket and market t-shirt sellers. And thanks to the many sellers that said "Hey, I can sell a package of 10." To the businesses that sold tickets; Hinde and Jaimes, Pina Colada, Petra’s, Vista Guayabitos, Casita de La Penita. To Cindys Purses for sharing her market spot to ensure we had amazing sales.

If there were a best/worst dressed contest... "Rick’s" by Marilynn would have won. Too funny.

We all won. In the last count we were well above the 100,000 pesos dream. Thanks to the non-profit groups that participated; Jaltemba foundation, JBar, Amigos, Rotarians, Cancer de Mama Clinic, the Fashion Show, Margarita Challenge, folks from the Jaltemba Golf.

Next year we would like to see floats from the Bridge of Life. We will ask participating businesses and non-profits to "come out and share our enthusiasm and outrageousness."

And to Gerry Webb who raised tons of Cash by cutting his hair. We love you. And Flo with her energy, enthusiasm and pink bra determination. Adan and company for his music, volunteerism and community spirit. Little Bobby Bulter for giving up a day of golf to support the walk and be our auctioneer. The police escort. The Motorcyle escort. The survivors. Gloria and Wade Dingwall who donate annually through Boobies Bar and Wades music. Yvonne and team for keeping the books as straight in a hurricane of activity. The Sunshine Coast Rotarians for their donations.

In the upcoming year, a few of us will be working behind the scenes. We will be meeting with doctors, clinics, companies IMSS, municipal, state and federal governments. We want to bring that mammogram machine to our area. We have a powerful team in Maruca, Dr. Lydia, Romy and myself. Determined and tenacious women. We'll update you as we progress.

The money will be deposited with the Jaltemba Foundation in the bank. The Cancer Walk group is part of the Jaltemba Foundation – an umbrella organization that makes our fundraising efforts legal by Mexican law.

The next step is for the negotiators to talk with IMSS to see if they will purchase the mammogram machine on our behalf and operate it using their funds. While there is not enough of a local population to have the mammogram working 7 days a week, there may be enough women in the surrounding areas to have a technician come here to operate the specialized x-ray once a week.

We will let you know as the negotiations continue.
