The Spring Concerts have become a tradition during the months of March, April and May with a variety of assemblages performed by the Puerto Vallarta School Orchestra. Assemblies are presented in various forums exhibiting their work and progress from the initial group to the most advanced of the institution orchestral ensembles workshop.

On this occasion, we are pleased to announce two concerts which will close the Spring 2014 season which also marks the end of an important cycle for us, our students, sponsors and the public of Vallarta.

On Wednesday May 28th at 5:00 pm in the Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus auditorium at the Centro Universitario de la Costa. The first concert is presented in a didactic format, with the same structure that allows us to get into the music period, execution and enjoyment. Admission to the concert is free.

Following the concert on May 28th in the same auditorium, a talk entitled "My Future in Music" will be presented by music professionals Miguel Almaguer, Manuel Zogbi, Tony Vierlyn and Joseph Manuel Fernandez about the myths and truths of the professional work of a dedicated musician.

On Thursday, May 29th at 8:00 pm on the Main Stage at the Act II complex, assembly orchestral soloist Manel Zogbi (violin) will be accompanied by OEPV in a gala concert that will be led by Maestro Miguel Almaguer, director and founder of OEPV. The concert will cost 150 pesos plus a minimum consumption of 50 pesos (two beers or two soft drinks or a national drink). Seating is limited to 150 attendees. After the concert, we will have a cocktail reception to wish success for the new projects by Master Almaguer and thank the nearly four years given to the institution. Most of the proceeds at the door will be delivered to the OEPV.

Manuel Zogbi was born into a family of musicians, occupying the sixth generation. His first contact with music was through his mother who motivated him early. At age 10 he began his violin studies in the city of St. Louis, Missouri under the guidance of his uncle Manuel Ramos with teacher collaboration by Rose Martin. At the age of 11 he performed his first concert in that city and won several competitions which opened the doors. Later he specialized in contemporary and popular music in the city of Monterrey NL under the guidance of Maestro Peter Fundora Armas and has been presented at various forums of the Mexican republic and the American union participating with various orchestras including the Chamber Orchestra of the Polytechnic, Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata de Coahuila, Venezuela Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra New Millennium, and Ramos Orchestra dynasty, among others.

He has toured several European countries like France, Greece, Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria and has performed with various international artists such as Ronnie Cole, Chuck Mangione, and on several occasions with the Piano of America, Raul Diblasio. It was exclusive violinist singer-songwriter Joan Sebastian where he toured throughout the Mexican republic the U.S., along with other countries in Central and South America. Among his most notable victories, he participated and won the international competition organized by the video website "YouTube" to form part of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra. One of over 3 thousand contestants around the world, Manuel Zogbi was not only the only Mexican violinist winner, but was also selected as first violinist of the same by the Director and Composer Tan Dun (Oscar© winner by the music of the film "El Tigre and the Dragon"). This concert with the YouTube Symphony Orchestra was performed in the famous "Carnegie Hall" theater in New York City.

For over three years, Maestro Miguel Almaguer has been the principal conductor of the ensemble or orchestral workshop and artistic director of the OEPV. The project was born and raised in his hands and the team that Miguel conceived to shape and start the institution.

Maestro Miguel Almaguer is the first professional conductor who lives and works in Puerto Vallarta full time and is leading an orchestra in our city. He has formed the first symphonic orchestral ensemble that has taken the city, arranged and executed the most successful concerts of classical music which have taken place in Puerto Vallarta and left an invaluable legacy for all the people who accompanied him in the training and consolidation project.

After nearly four years spent on the project, Master Miguel Almaguer has decided to take on a personal project outside of Puerto Vallarta aimed at professional development and consolidation as a composer. According to his own words, he will pause in his activity as a conductor to focus on his work as a composer and cultural manager. His last concert as director at this stage of his life will be in front of one of the major professional orchestras in the country, the details of this event will be released soon.

Act II Stages is located in Old Town Vallarta at the corner of Basilio Badillo and Insurgentes. Donation tickets may be purchased at the Act II Box Office.
