Wow! Is it ever GREAT to be home! I was only away for two weeks - parts of which passed like a heartbeat; the rest... an eternity.

What I missed most was our Market. The warmth and camaraderie of everyone who takes part in creating the atmosphere of our Market was missing in my life for 14 days. Where else can you watch a vendor carefully take measurements of a young woman to make her a new dress that will fit her exactly? Or eat a screaming hot bagel? Now THAT’S fresh!

I did check out a couple of “Farmers’ Markets” in Southern Alberta, and I have to say the ‘warm and fuzzy’ was not there. Maybe because they are bigger than us. There certainly seemed to be a lack of FUN. I guess when you back a semi trailer full of tomatoes driven in from British Columbia onto a high school parking lot in the middle of summer, it ISN’T fun. It’s work. However, I am glad to be back and slid right into the old routine with a huge sigh of relief and lots of hugs.

One of the primary reasons I went back was to renew my passport and visit my sister who is an avid second-hand-store-shopper-for-her-sister. Hitting all my favorite stores with her and digging through mounds and piles and aisles turned up some wonderful finds. I will be showcasing over the next few weeks. Wonderful vintage silk and bits and snits of old jewelry to tear apart and rebuild or change. I also am reopening my candle biz this summer so am stocked to here with beeswax and some stunning new cosmetic grade scents. Like chocolate... yummy. Stop by and place an order!

Along with old friends and fellow vendors, we have some newbies including Yolanda who makes some very sexy swimwear. You can buy off the rack, so to speak, or have her make you a suit (bikini or full) in precisely the color/pattern that you want. Why waste time plowing through what fits everyone else but you? They aren’t expensive either. And, there are cover ups to match and some ‘cover-ups’ I would wear out for dinner - they are that beautiful.

So come down every Saturday morning and take advantage of our cool overhead fans, have some lunch, stock up for the week’s groceries and shop in a proper manner - slowly, calmly, taking all the time you need …and you can bring your dog. What a great life!

Nearly forgot - Mark Peters has re-invented the lentil for all you vegetarian types out there. They don’t look like lentils, or taste like lentils but they are, so check ‘em out! They are decidedly different... I’ll leave that there!

And our own Lisa Love who has been hand-painting tiles for a while now has landed the job of the summer - she is making a massive tiled piece of art work for Casa Kimberley. This house once belonged to the late, great actress Elizabeth Taylor. The house is now finally being renovated and Lisa is making part of that historic home more beautiful. Well done, Lisa! We all expect to be invited to the unveiling! She will still make time to fill your orders, so go see her every Saturday at the Paradise Community Center, 127 Pulpito, across the street from Coco’s Kitchen, in the Romantic Zone on the south side of town. We are open every Saturday, all year round from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. See you there!
