Rotary International President Gary C.K. Huang chose Illuminate Rotary as his theme for 2014-15. Huang is urging club members to Light Up Rotary by hosting a Rotary Day in their community, continuing our fight against polio, and increasing club membership. "Illuminate Rotary is more than our theme. It is how we make a difference - every day, in every club, and every country we serve."

This year our goal is to present the works and projects of the Club to the communities of Jaltemba Bay while adding more members in the spirit of the President of Rotary International motto: "Illuminate Rotary."

As a first goal we will close pending matching grants from this past year. It was difficult with the suspension of the district, however, "Books on Wheels," thanks to Gema Marquez, was conducted from September to end of the school year with much success.

Teacher, Gema Marquez finished this year's "Books on Wheels" 2013 - 2014 program. Each week she visited 10 pre-schools in the region: Chacala, The Capomo, El Divisadero, Puerta de la Lima, El Tonino, Las Cabras, La Joya, La Colmena, Los Ayala, and Los Girasoles. The program aims to instill a love of reading at an early age working with teachers, parents and children. It is a library on wheels lending different books each week to small children. We are requesting to extend the program for another year based on this success. And, as always, volunteers are welcome during the school year. If you are interested in participating on the recycling committee please contact us or Gema Marquez at the Los Amigo's Community Cultural Center in La Peñita.

Now, we are raising funds for our next project, remodeling Preparatory November 20 in Las Varas, with a 1.8 million pesos budget to renovate three classrooms with a computer center, science lab and gastronomy kitchen workshop. The Rotary Club of Berkeley has been working hard to solicit funds for the District 5160 and Rotary Foundation for this project. They've received commitments from 15 clubs to participate next year.

With an investment of over 50,000 pesos, the Rotary Club of Jaltemba Bay La Penita donated 10 computers for a computer classroom for the Primary School Benito Juarez in El Capomo. This is part of a matching grant to support schools during the Festival of Brotherhood event with District 5130 and Middle Town Rotary Club in Northern California.

Thanks to the contributions of our partner Rotary Clubs in Canada and the United States, The Rotary Foundation and you, we hope to make this year another success serving the community.
