Bucerias Tercera Edad AC is a New Charity for 'Third Age' Citizens in Bucerias Bucerias Tercera Edad

In May 2013, the director of Club Tercera Edad (Third Age Club) approached Amigos de Bucerias requesting a helping hand for the seniors. Club Tercera Edad is a centre for seniors located on Canal and Encino in Bucerias. There are approximately 150 members.

At that time, Jim and Marilyn Moxin, a Canadian couple having experience working with the elderly in Canada, along with Sue Fornoff and Ruben Ramirez, decided to volunteer their time. To provide aid to these seniors they enlisted the help of the John Ozzello Memorial Food Bank. Randy and Sandi Nystrom quickly agreed to provide a monthly dispensation of food for those in need. Dr. Essau Gutierrez, owner of City-Medica volunteered to provide free medical consultations to the needy. With the help of Alison Nomanton's Wednesday Market, we were able to raise sufficient funds to meet the day-to-day expenses of the Club.

In December, a group of Canadian women joined the team, bringing enthusiasm and skills. The senior women of Bucerias, under the direction of these volunteers, make beautiful aprons, adorned handbags, lovely paper flowers in brilliant colors, and many other items. Items made by this group continue to be sold in the Wednesday Market and these funds are used for the seniors' needs. Money raised through cooking demonstrations, dinner parties and cash donations, were used to pay prescription drugs, and needed medical procedures as well as every day expenses for the centre, such as utilities.
 
After approximately one year of raising funds for the seniors at Club Tercera Edad, the Amigos de Bucerias dissolved Jim and Marilyn's appointment at their April 2014 meeting. All funds raised by the Moxin Team were retained under the control of the Club's director for their exclusive use.

As the Moxin Team was no longer raising funds for the Club, they formed their own registered charitable association and are now known as Bucerias Tercera Edad AC. The association's mission is to help all needy Bucerias senior citizens.

Bucerias Tercera Edad AC is starting a new venture without funds and our projected budget has a zero balance. Our need is great and we look forward to your continued support. Your attendance at our fundraising events, and donations of your household goods, clothing and money are greatly appreciated. We have a calendar full of fun and delicious events for the upcoming season. We thank you for your support in the past and look forward to seeing you in the future.

• Nov 18 - Cooking demonstration (Mexican of course), 5-10 PM, 75 pesos
• Dec 9 - Welcome back dinner, 5-10 PM, 75 pesos
• Jan 18 - Cooking Demonstration, 4-10 PM, 75 pesos
• Feb 3 - Gala event with games, music and dancing plus food tasting, 4-9 PM, 10 pesos/taste
• Mar 3 - Cooking Demonstration, 4-10 PM, 75 pesos
• Apr 7 - Farewell dinner with live music, 5-10 PM, 150 pesos
