2014 Adoptions Recap
It seemed like an endless stream of kittens through the shelter last year!!
The in-take total was actually 133 felines since last January, including a few nursing mothers who are now living at the shelter.
So far we have found Forever Homes for only 91 of the lucky ones…..so our nursery is still full!
Again, our Adoption Booth at Plaza Marina accounted for almost half of those adoptions and we wish to say a heartfelt “Thank You” to volunteers Livia, Marilyn & George who faithfully manned that post on Fridays from 11 – 2.
All kittens spend at least 2 weeks in our Clinic where they are tested for FIV/Leukemia, dewormed and monitored until they are deemed to be healthy enough to be moved to the Nursery. They will stay there until old enough to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated and then move on to Acclimation. Now they are ready to meet the outside world and hopefully spend the rest of their lives in a loving home.

Stevie Nicks gets some lovin’ from a visitor. |
Featured Feline: Stevie Nicks
In mid-October I received a report of a “kitty” hanging around in front of Actinver in Plaza Marina…..very friendly, seeking human attention and obviously dumped there.
Of course it found its way to our adoption booth in front of Comercial Mexicana and was soon in our clinic at the shelter.
After examination by Dra. Eva, it was determined to be a 4-5 year old female and was promptly named Stevie Nicks (yes, after one of our volunteer’s favorite rock stars). Stevie is now spayed, vaccinated and ready for her real Forever Home.
We all know that the cute little kitties are easier to find homes for. This is unfortunate, as many sweet & loving older cats get passed over for adoption. If this is Stevie’s fate, at least she will be able to live out her life in dignity in our shelter gardens…..part of PuRR’s mission.
If you are interested in adopting any of our felines, young or old, contact us at adopt@purrproject.com for more information.

Shelter Tours
If you are planning to visit Vallarta this winter and would like to visit our shelter, you can now sign up on-line in advance. Just click on SHELTER VISITS. You’ll see all the info you’ll need about visiting our ranch, including a link to Superior Tours Vallarta’s website where you’ll find easy instructions to sign up for a specific tour.
This sign-up process makes things easier for us, but we’ll be happy to take your paid reservation at Kitty BINGO or any of our other events.
Our ranch tour dates are on Wednesday mornings as follows: January 21, February 4 & 18, March 4 & 18, April 1 & 15.
For a donation of just 250 pesos ($20us), you’ll be able to pet, cuddle, hug, nuzzle, pamper, and snuggle to your heart’s content.
Note that these van tours have been completely funded so every peso of your donation goes directly to the cats.
If you would like to bring along some toys for the nursery, our kitties will be very happy. (They love anything with feathers!!)
Thanks! Grazie! Merci! Gracias!
Without the help of expert translators Luz Covarrubias-Garcia and her daughter Judy Covarrubias-Garcia, we would never be able to put out a newsletter in Spanish!
It was their idea to do a regular newsletter and they helped set up the original program.
Luz and Judy are both expert translators acknowledged by the Supreme Court of Justice of the State of Jalisco. If you’d like to get an estimate and translate something with them you can contact them at balamalux@yahoo.com.
Now they take time out of their busy schedule each month to translate articles for PuRR and they do it because they really LOVE helping the kitties! Meow!
Also, thanks to all the wonderful people who welcomed a PuRR kitty into their homes in 2014! Happy New Year to all of you from all of us!
