The American Legion Post 14 scores big again with over 500 hungry people attending their 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off Festival.

This event featured 15 recipes from a broad range of sponsors, including restaurants and individuals.

This always popular event was held on Saturday, March 14th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at El Rio BBQ Bar alongside the Cuale River in Paso Ancho. It was an "All you can eat" chili tasting plus one order of riblets for only 200 pesos per person.

Charities benefiting from the cook-off include Banderas Bay Women's Shelter, Youth Sports benefiting Torpedos American Football (Pop Warner 6 to 17), DIF New Life Home for Boys and also Community Relations Projects of the American Legion and Navy League of Vallarta.

Mariachis performed from 12:30 to 2:00 then Mikki Prost, Murphy's Dave Whitty & Matt Cooke and finishing the entertainment with Nacho Daddy's Texas Embassy Blues Band.

There were two classes of judging. Popularity vote by the attendees to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies and also Professional judging to determine a "Grand Chef's Prize" trophy.

And the winners are...

Professional Judging:
• 1st - Nacho Daddy (#1)
• 2nd - American Legion (#12)
• 3rd - Murphy's Irish Pub (#16)

Popularity Vote:
• 1st - Hotel Casa Anita (#17)
• 2nd - Escondida (#15)
• 3rd - Nacho Daddy (#1)

Murphy's, Nacho Daddy and American Legion (Ron Abbe) must have the secret as they were winners last year.
It appeared that everyone had an excellent time and so many people came out winners but at the end the real winners were the Charities of Puerto Vallarta that the American Legion so faithfully support.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Mark your calendars! Next year's date is Saturday March 12th! See you at the 4th Annual Chili Cook-Off Festival!
