Run for your lives! The zombies are coming!

The Amigos, our cheering squad and 14 participants had a blast on our first annual 5K Fun Run.

Nine runners started the race with their lives (represented by streamers attached to their waists) fluttering behind them as they did their best to evade the five zombies who were hot in pursuit.

The 4 grand prize winners were the first 2 runners to cross the finish line and the 2 zombies with the most lives taken.

1st place runner – Steve Denton
2nd place runner – Geoff Anderson

1st place zombie – Fiona Foster Franco (with 14 lives!)
2nd place zombie – Mayra Franco

Thanks to Delegado, Polo, for his help announcing and coordinating the event with Transito and thanks to Transito for providing a car to lead the race. Thanks also to our volunteers who helped with signups, Denise Kamenzind and Shannon Morelli for riding bikes to guide the participants and Shannon Morelli, Jessie Watt and Joan Gil who helped with planning and coordination.

The run was designed to bring more awareness to the work that is being done for the Highway Beautification project that Amigos has taken on by hiring two full time employees, local to La Cruz, who provide landscape maintenance and trash/debris clean up along the 200 HWY section running through town. All proceeds from the run go to the project.

Talk is already underway about how to make next year’s event bigger and better. I can’t wait to see what the Amigos comes up with next. I may even dust off my running shoes!

Hope you enjoy the photos above.
