Because music is an important part in the education of children, in April the Orchestra School of Puerto Vallarta (OEPV) began teaching musical initiation for children 7-9 years old.
On August 31, 2015 they will open two new groups.
Recent research asserts that music is a wonderful vehicle for the development of the child covering the cognitive, social, emotional, affective, motor areas of language and the ability to read and write.
This program has different levels and each student is evaluated for assignment to the appropriate level. Upon completion, the child learns to play an instrument in the school orchestra.
The classes are very successful to not only improve musical skills of the child, but many are now able to follow a rhythm, read music and its components and of course perform simple recorder melodies.
Currently we have 2 groups of Musical Initiation. Children have the opportunity to be introduced to the sound and execution of all orchestral instruments because our older students are invited to the class to give a demonstration of the different instruments, thus giving the child to choose their favorite.
The teacher in charge of the groups is the Musical Educator Javier Nunez, who studied music at the Conservatory of Tucuman Province, Argentina. He moved to Puerto Vallarta in 2002 where he teaches music in various schools with a professional touch with local assemblies. He recently founded, together with fellow Argentine Gustavo Fernandez, the group of "Los del Sur" ("The South") which features Argentina folklore music, tango and Argentine rock.
Without a doubt, music plays an important role in the teaching-learning process of students and we are happy to be part of that process.
Musical Initiation goals:
• Polyrhythmic pieces correctly interpreted
• Identify and sing the notes of the scale
• Sing songs with correct breathing and phrasing issues
• Singing in a group and individually
• Identify signs of musical notation
• Read the notes on the staff
• Visually and orally identify the instruments of the orchestra
• Differentiate the character on the pieces heard
• Play simple pieces on the recorder following the correct position, breathing, articulation and phrasing
The documents required to register your child are two passport-size photographs, copy of ID of parent or guardian, copy of proof of residence. The registration fee is 50 pesos and 350 pesos monthly.
