Carmelita, a little handful of joy!
Featured Feline: Carmela
One hot morning in September, Jose found this teeny kitty in a plastic bag, tied to the shelter gate.
Dra. Eva gave her intravenous fluids as she was vey dehydrated, and she was soon showing a spunky & playful side.
She has been gaining strength in the clinic and LOVES attention so should make a great adoption candidate some day soon!
We will be back at Daiquiri Dick’s on Saturday mornings starting November 14th and as always, at Plaza Marina on Fridays from 11-2.

We have set the dates for the official shelter tours for this year and we hope YOU can join us on this little Mexican adventure.
In addition to meeting some of the 150+ residents out at the ranch, you will see some of the countryside of rural Nayarit and the charming colonial village of San Juan del Valle.
All this for only 300 pesos per person (or $20 by PayPal) and we throw in the bottled water and cat treats plus round-trip transportation from one of three convenient meeting points.
The first tour is scheduled for November 25, then December 9 & 23 and every Wednesday in January and February. For detailed information and to make your reservation, just click on SHELTER VISITS.
Charlie in his shelter casita
Charlie’s Journey to Canada
In early May, Jane Woodside noticed a beautiful cat with BIG blue eyes in the driveway of her Fluvial home in Puerto Vallarta.
He accepted her invitation to come hang out in the backyard and have some dinner. Though very thin, un-neutered and obviously a street cat, Jane and her guests felt he would make a great companion to someone and decided to take him back to Canada. Unfortunately, they could not get him on their flight home so they contacted PuRR, where he went to live until they could find transport to British Columbia…..not an easy task going into the summer months.
After testing, neutering and all his vaccinations, Charlie was ready to go. Then….he escaped from his casita at the shelter!! We knew he was still in the gardens as Jose would spot him at feeding time but it was a nail-biting three weeks before he was caught and returned to a more secure casita.
As the weeks passed, Charlie became accustomed to shelter life with two meals a day and lots of attention and was no longer frantic to escape. But ride after ride fell through and it was September 19th before he got his chance to go to his Forever Home with Barbara Sanderson in Campbell River on Vancouver Island.
We are so grateful to Mike and Bobbi Ireland who were Charlie’s Angels on THREE flights plus a night in a Vancouver hotel! And a big Muchas Gracias to Lorna Bradley who coordinated it all from the Canada end. Thanks to them, Charlie was delivered safely to Barbara and she reports that he loves his new home and she loves him. Meow!

Tasha on Adoption Day
Adoption Update: Tasha in Sweden
In July of 2013, Fabiola and Robert Gustafsson made arrangements with volunteer Bama Brasseal to visit the PuRR Project Shelter.
They fell in love with a tiny tuxedo kitten in the nursery, named her “Tasha” and took her home. Tasha went with them when they moved north to Torreon but after another move to Sweden, Tasha was left behind with Faby’s mother.
We were thrilled to hear from Fabiola last month: “Hello everyone! Just to share the news that my Tasha at last came to her new and definitive home up in Sweden! After some time being in Mexico, I was able to bring her with us after our last vacations there visiting my mom. Now finally after a very long but nice trip, we are home in Elmhult, Sweden….. all together with our daughter and two Chihuahuas.” That officially makes Tasha the most-traveled cat from the PuRR shelter…..so far!
