The city of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle in Riviera Nayarit is considered the "Jewel in the Crown" with 2,589 inhabitants. It is considered a model town at the national level based on its economic and tourism standards.

It is expected that La Cruz will develop even more when the new highway to Punta Mita is completed.

According to the documents of builders and the Government of the State, the new highway is scheduled to open within the next three months, depending on a dispute with ejido, which has stopped the construction on a kilometer of the highway.

Rated as one of the most important public infrastructure projects of the six-year period in the State of Nayarit, the four-lane highway that goes from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Punta de Mita in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas attends the vision of improving communication and traffic between these two areas of great tourist developments.

This work was projected from the previous term of office with Ney González Sánchez. Since it was not completed when he left office, Roberto Sandoval followed up.

The Cruz de Huanacaxtle-Punta Mita highway comprises a 7 kilometer stretch, and will be covered with concrete asphalt.

The work has been long-awaited by the inhabitants of the area, between hotel and tourism sectors. Today it is almost a  reality, a dimension which will give higher dividends to the locals.

The contract for this important work was awarded to C & C Ingeniería y Proyectos SA de CV, headed by Hector Cardenas, who also developed important real estate resorts in the Riviera Nayarit area.

This road work is being completed for a cost of 250 million pesos, money contributed in its entirety by the Government of the State of Nayarit to not only benefit the inhabitants of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, but the entire region.

This four lane highway will solve the demands of motorists and the many daily commuters between La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and Punta Mita, plus a great convenience for the locals and tourists.
