The Department of Social Development and the Municipal Disability Council announced the “Cena a Ojos Cerrados” event to financially support the Puerto Vallarta civil association for the Visually Impaired of the Bay (Discapacitados Visuales de la Bahía).

David de la Rosa, deputy director of Social Development and Alonso Bravo Amaral, director of COMUDIS, announced that the fundraising dinner will be held on Saturday, June 18, 6:00 - 10:00 pm at the Sirloin Stockade and donation tickets will be 220 pesos per person, which will offer the opportunity to participate in an experience to better understand visual impairment.

"Mayor Arturo Peña Davalos has invested a lot to the issue of the disabled and has given support to people in need," noted David de la Rosa.

A couple of years ago, the first edition of the "Cena a Ojos Cerrados" was attended by nearly a hundred people. This time the goal is to have an attendance of more than 150.

Alejandro Castillo, head of Visually Impaired of the Bay (DIVIBA), thanked the support of the municipal government and explained that the proceeds from the dinner will be used to supply white canes and  Braille articles, which are the main needs of the visually impaired. White canes identify people with this disability and serves as a guide to navigate autonomously on public thoroughfares.

"We can do a lot for those who are losing their sight in giving them independence, mobility and learning to develop. We are here to serve those who request help. We currently have 60 registered."

DIVIBA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure that any person in a situation of blindness, low vision or in the process of losing sight have important information that will help them make important decisions to have an improvement in their quality of life.

Tickets can be purchased at the offices of COMUDIS (Paseo de Las Palmas, Col. Santa Maria, former Regional Hospital - telephone is 322 221-3200) or the Department of Social Development (Dirección de Desarrollo Social), third floor of the UMA (Unidad Municipal Administrativa) located at Av. Mezquital #604, Col. Portales, Telephone is 322 299-5481.

According to INEGI census of 2010, in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta they had registered about 500 people visually impaired and the number continues to increase greatly by the effects of diabetes.

If you are unable to attend this worthy event, why not buy a ticket(s) to support our local visually impaired citizens?
