The State Congress of Jalisco approved Friday, July 27, a new law that will protect animal rights with the official name of "Law of Protection and Care of Animals."
The goal of this piece of legislation is to create a framework for institutional coordination and citizen participation in favor of animals.
The Secretaries of Environment, Health, Rural Development and Education, will get new powers and responsibilities regarding to the new law.
A new Council for the Attention and Welfare of Animals will be put in place to coordinate the work of institutions and citizen participation.
There is a wave of awareness about the living conditions of animals in the Mexican society, and this new law is a sign of it.
