The renowned singer-songwriter Lila Downs filmed a chapter of the "Naufragantes" program in Puerto Vallarta from 15 to 19 July, a leading series for Discovery Channel, which will give a high profile to this destination in Mexico and across the continent, and will certainly have strong promotional impact.
"This has been an effort by the Tourism Trust (FIDETUR) to convince production to bring the program to be released before the end of the year for the Latino community in the United States and South America through Travel & Living (Discovery Channel)," commented FIDETUR director Agustin Alvarez Valdivia.
Lila Downs, who earlier this month participated as an artist in the Montreal Jazz Festival, is featured in this 46 minute documentary which will be entirely devoted to different aspects of Puerto Vallarta tourism.
She was amazed by the atmosphere of the waterfront village as she cruised the Malecon (Boardwalk), walked the trails of the Cuale River Island, visited some businesses with wixarika (Huichol) crafts, interacted with the famous sculptures and especially admired the landscape where the majestic Sierra Madres meet the Bay of Banderas.
In addition, the Oaxacan artist visited some beaches like Las Caletas, dined in some typical restaurants, interviewed renowned chefs, and explored corners of the bay to show a comprehensive overview of all the treasures that Puerto Vallarta has for its visitors.
Currently Lila Downs is considered one of the most important artists of her genre and ranks among the most influential artists in the world and "it was a great honor for her to accept the invitation to film in our destination," stated Alvarez.
The "Naufragantes" program is a documentary series of 13 episodes that have been filmed in different cities, highlighting its tourist attractions, folklore, gastronomy and general cultural aspects that are part of the richness of Mexico and the world.
The episodes are scheduled to premiere before the end of the year on Travel & Living (Discovery Channel) during Prime Time television, between 6:00 and 10:00 pm, with repeat programming in the mornings and afternoons.
