Get to Know the Real Marilyn Monroe as Tipsy Rose Lee Presents 'Bombshell' Gary R. Beck - Beck's Best | |
November 11, 2016 |
Here is a new one for many of us. Not "Gypsy Rose Lee" but when Tipsy takes the stage, the guests knew a huge pleasant surprise lies ahead. Her show is a superb examination of the life of Marilyn Monroe [Norma Jean], her struggles through contests and modeling to scraping a living to being considered a dumb blond when she was anything but. Tipsy wrote the script and debuted the show here. The entire time was sheer enjoyment and Tipsy demonstrated why she is extremely popular and successful in Seattle. The crowd seemed to shout that this is a must-see professional performance. Come to Puerto Vallarta often and for long runs.
We viewed her last season as part of Mama Tits' revue "Mayhem With Mama" and has been awarded as part of the cast of "Mimosas Cabaret" in Seattle.
From the musical television series "Smash", written about Marilyn's life, Tipsy sang a number of very fine tunes as "Let Me Be Your Star", "I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn't Love to Howl", "[I'm Gonna Be a] Smash" and "Second Hand White Baby Grand". The songs are stories of her short life and quite fascinating. Tipsy excited the viewers responding with roars of delightful applause. She showed everyone that we were watching a true star who had seen the bright spotlights for eons.
She moves left to right, back and forth, enabling every single person present a head-on view of her persona. High notes were reached delightfully and held for seemingly days. She changed her wig and into many stylish dresses behind an on-stage screen. Some of us got a good peak. Then she opened Act Two by arriving in a classic bedazzling 1950's Marilyn dress, white and pleated, a la "Seven Year Itch" a subway air vent which blew it skyward.
The show is an inside, largely unknown look at Marilyn's type-cast life. She wanted to be viewed as a human being not an icon. The star was unhappy for she was intelligent though not well-educated and loved to write. She was far from her iconic vision and felt repressed by the lack of public acceptance of her true full real self. It was not until her movie "Bus Stop" that she was able to finally show critics that she could play a straight dramatic role.
Tipsy has written a musical biography of this star. Not to be omitted were her loves, marriages and dreams. One can follow her life with its various twists and turns and actually feel the rich emotions exuding from Tipsy's lovely presentations with meaningful lyrics. Her new creation screams "Repeat, please" and we are certain Tipsy will do just that.
