The President of Canirac, Jorge Zambrano, reported that the month of December has been very positive for the restaurant sector of Puerto Vallarta.

The restaurants of Puerto Vallarta are going through a good period of the year with the arrival of thousands of Americans and Canadians who are here to spend the winter period. The so-called "snow birds" have been arriving and have caused the sales of a high number of restaurants in the city to rebound.

The President of the local Restaurant Association (Canirac), Jorge Zambrano, informed Vallarta Opina that December is proving very positive for the restaurant sector, with an increase of between 20 and 40 percent in sales for the businesses located Downtown and particularly those in the so-called Romantic Zone (Old Town Vallarta).

He emphasized the fact that foreign tourists very much appreciate the local gastronomic offerings and as frequent visitors, many of them have their favorite restaurants and there are people who come back every year and have their meals or dinners in the same place for five or even ten years as repeat customers.

Jorge Zambrano commented that the season is expected to get even better as the school holidays begin when thousands of domestic tourists arrive in the region. It will open the range of options for establishments of different categories, since the tourists of the country seek out the foods of Mexico.

In addition, reservations are being made for Christmas and New Year's dinners, which usually represent increases of up to 100 percent in the sales for some establishments since many people prefer to go out for the holidays instead of cooking at home. In addition, there are very good options in our local cuisine since Puerto Vallarta offers gastronomic choices second only to Mexico City.

Jorge Zambrano asked the restaurateurs to maintain their quality and not compromise by offering sub-standard products in order to lower costs, since it is better to treat tourists well and keep the prices down as well as not driving away new customers.

He said that restaurant owners should be creative and offer what customers are looking for and by doing that, those restaurants will make the most profits with the large number of tourists in our city.

He emphasized that this has been an exceptional year in tourism and it is hoped that the Christmas and New Year period will bring high resources to the providers of tourist services from the hotels to the small businesses that provide raw materials.

According to the Association of Hotels, in the second half of the month the hotel occupancy will be above 90 percent in most of the lodging establishments in the region.
