The Food Bank of Puerto Vallarta (Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Vallarta) wishes to thank all those who generously "rounded up" at our local OXXO convenience stores, resulting in the presentation of a check for over 226,500 pesos.

Great support was received from the OXXO commercial chain and all its customers who answered "yes" when the cashier asked if they wanted to round up for the benefit of the population of our region which suffers from poverty.

The three month program from May through July of 2012 raised 226,557.87 pesos.

Lucia Michel of OXXO confirmed the commitment to continue in supporting worthy causes through the OXXO rounding, and likewise thanked and gave awards to leaders and advisers in the stores for the excellent work carried out during the period and inviting all customers to participate.

Meanwhile, Oliver Vidal Pascual Sánchez, Director of Banco de Alimentos (Food Bank) thanked OXXO on behalf of the beneficiaries and for being the organization that was selected for rounding since it means being able to continue with their noble work in delivering more and better food to those in need.

In the same way, he thanked customers for their generosity since this type of campaign depends on their generous contributions.

The volunteers of the Food Bank were awarded with boat trips around Banderas Bay with dinner and a show, as well as  each of the leaders of the five stores with the highest rounded amounts. They are as follows: Arnulf Dueñas of Mayan Marina, Daniel Velazquez of Punta Mita, Sayulita Mary Antonia Velázquez, Eduardo Ibarguen of San Javier and Armando Silvestre of Decameron.

Pascual Sanchez also mentioned that resources received shall be applied on three concepts. The first consists of the purchase of food, seeds, cereals and grains; the second is purchase of a cooling chamber for the management and conservation of perishable products; and the third to be used for improvements within the institution.

The event, taking place on the premises of the Food Bank, was attended by Oscar Perez, President, and Adriana Quintero, Puerto Vallarta Food Bank Director, who received the check and stressed that this effort would not be possible without the support of the cashiers that invite customers to round up, as well as the community that participated in giving smiles and well-being to those most in need.

Also present were Adriana de Santiago, Gabriel Tapia and Hugo Alejandro Martínez of OXXO.
