The Puerto Vallarta Food Bank makes efforts to support the poor Vallarta families with food through the campaign, "For a Mexico Without Hunger."

Food banks are institutions created to meet the needs of a portion of the population living in extreme poverty. They work and strive to recover and take advantage of all the usable edible food that was formerly wasted.

Every year on the occasion of the World Food Day, celebrated in the month of October, 66 food banks in the country join together to go out into the streets and go door-to-door appealing to the goodwill of the citizens to donate nonperishable food, especially seeds, cereals and grains. These are paired and distributed among all beneficiaries of the program in a manner fair and balanced.

This effort is made possible by the coordination of Food Bank of Mexico (Bancos de Alimentos de México) and the decisive participation of the national military services, Army, Marines, Scouts, schools, businesses, volunteers and citizenship.

It is worth mentioning that more than 1,200,000 people are benefited each year by the Food Bank of Mexico.

This year the start of preparations for the campaign "For A Mexico Without Hunger 2012" ("Por Un México Sin Hambre 2012") will start with a breakfast planning meeting.

The Food Bank is inviting all those who would like be involved to a breakfast meeting on Friday, August 31, at 10:00 am, at Memories Café, located at Mina #207, downtown Vallarta. The cost of the breakfast is 99 pesos per person, which will cover the costs.

For more information, please contact Victor Navarrete at (322) 104-7535 or 185-1632.

The Puerto Vallarta Food Bank (Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Vallarta A.C.) builds bridges between donors and beneficiaries that secure the donation of quality products to collect, select and distribute food to those who need it most.

Update: On Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 10:00 am there will be an informative breakfast about the progress of the Mexico Without Hunger Program by the Vallarta Food Bank. The breakfast meeting will be at Coco's Kitchen at 122 Pulpito in Old Town Vallarta. Please RSPV at direccion@bancodealimentospv.org.mx.
