Featured Feline: Ruthie

This calico beauty came to Purr almost one year ago when Bonnie Cretzman rescued Mama Precious and her five teeny kittens.

Rusty & Rudy were soon adopted and Russell has been released to the yard, but Ruthie and sister Ruby are still in the nursery.

She is friendly, curious, playful…..a happy kitty who is more than ready for a loving home!

Contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com if you are ready to give her that home.

Shelter Update

We made it through February and March with no storms, no trees falling or trucks crashing into the fence!

We did have to bring in a backhoe to dig a new hole at the far end of the property to dispose of waste, but that should be good for another 18 months.

We also have to install a new septic tank for the house as the old one is in danger of collapse so we are budgeting for that.

We have a new puppy named “Toby”….maybe a white lab, thrown over the fence. He is such a happy little fella’ that we decided to let him stay and he is now sleeping with Jose’s children. He probably thinks he’s a cat….and the cats think so, too!

Simona’s Senior Center is such a great addition and we are so thankful to everyone who helped make it happen!

Isla Cuale Spay/Neuter Clinic

Sunday, March 5 was another FREE Spay/Neuter Clinic sponsored by PuRR Project on the Isla Cuale in Old Town Vallarta.

As usual, volunteers were up before sunrise to begin registering the local folks lined up with their pets.

By 9:00 am, the tents & tables are set up, the first animals have been sedated and shaved and the vets from Pets For Life are ready to roll!!

A total of 71 cats and dogs were sterilized that morning. A HUGE “Thank You” to the volunteers who worked so hard that day and to Trisha Aljoe who donated funds to pay the vet expenses!!

These free clinics are scheduled the first Sunday of each month through 2017, with a different animal support group sponsoring each one. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Marilyn at exkhan@usfamily.net.

The PuRR Nursery

This year has been disappointing for adoptions and the PuRR nursery is always full.

We found homes for almost twice as many in this same three month period last year.

Plaza Marina on Fridays continues to be our best adoption venue, but there are so many kittens up for adoption with the various rescue groups and not enough homes!

It is unfortunate as “”kitten season” is starting again (does it ever end here?) and we still have kitties from last Spring that have not found their Forever Home. We keep them in the nursery as long as possible but eventually have to release these “teens” into the yard with the adults.

If YOU would like to give one of these older kittens a home, contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com for more information.

Fundraising

High Season in Puerto Vallarta is winding down and with it, our fundraising events.

The season started with the 2nd annual Garage Sale, then the Luau at Sea Monkey in December and the Fashion Show in February.

March 21 was the Cocktail Party at Daiquiri Dick’s and March 27 the last BINGO.

We welcomed many visitors and locals who joined us every other Wednesday for Kitty BINGO at Margarita Grill.

Amy Armstrong was a great host for Adult Bingo at The Palm, where we had a lot of laughs!

It is important to raise funds to not only pay the monthly bills but see us through the seven long summer months when no events are scheduled. So a big THANK YOU for all your support this year!!

Shelter Tours

As the month of March ended, we also come to the end of our official scheduled Shelter Tours, which have been every other Wednesday since mid-November.

The shelter is very remote and not close to any public transportation so the only way to get there is on the tour or with a volunteer.

If you are going to be in Puerto Vallarta in the coming months and have a group that wants to visit, please contact us at visit@purrproject.com and we will make every effort to schedule a special visit for you.

All the PuRR cats and kittens LOVE visiting days when they get the human attention many of them crave (plus treats)!
