About 380 dogs and cats were sterilized at the facilities of the Municipal Administrative Unit - UMA - during Saturday and Sunday, in what was the First Massive Campaign for Free Sterilization carried out in Puerto Vallarta.
With the support of the City Council, through the Animal Welfare Coordination and Control Center, Animal Assistance and Municipal Shelter, the Calle Zero Foundation, the Association of Small Animal Specialists Veterinarians in Puerto Vallarta, the Eighth Sanitary Jurisdiction, and also more than 40 volunteers from various animal protection groups and associations in the municipality, the goal of 300 animals that had been intervened was exceeded by two days of hard work.
From 8:00 am, responsible citizens were arriving at the public building to be received by a veterinarian zootechnician who, prior to a review of the dogs and cats in order to verify an adequate state of health, as well as the corresponding registry, One by one were called to the area of anesthesia.
Once their pet was in the hands of the doctors, the caretakers were taken to the waiting area, where they had the opportunity to listen to interesting talks from veterinarians, trainers and wildlife specialists, which included the most important care for dogs and cats, canine behavior, violence against animals and respect for wildlife in general.
It should be noted that the sterilization of dogs and cats is the only humanitarian way to end the overpopulation of animals, since a single pair of dogs, during 7 years can produce along with their offspring some 67 thousand dogs. In turn, cats can reach half a million felines.
It is worth mentioning that we also had the valuable sponsorship of several companies such as Rotary Club Puerto Vallarta, Pet Friendly Puerto de Luna Hotel, Hello Bike Tours, Pet Palace, Ruímica Lab, Impulso de Aguila, Valapanza, Don Chonito Bakery, Starbucks, as well as the organizations of Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals, PuRR Project, Dogs for Life and Animal Society AC.
