Here is what we are up to in Chacala, Nayarit, Mexico:
 
Food!
 
We just completed our first Evergreen-Chacala sisterhood exchange cooking series with Chef Alondra Maldonado from Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. We held 4 classes over 4 days and learned to make Almond Chicken, Shrimp Empanadas, Gorditas, Enchiladas and so much more! It was a great learning experiencing for all and the beginning of a sisterhood exchange between Evergreen and Chacala Mexico.

Art!
 
Evergreen resident and artist Don Sahli is holding an artist class series in Chacala, Mexico. "Paint the color of Chacala with Don Sahli" October 30th through November 6th and November 13th-November 20th, 2017. Literature!
 
Our 2nd annual literary festival will be held December 3-17, 2017. Take the opportunity to spread your passion for your craft among local school children through our workshop programs & participate! Enjoy a relaxed environment with other writers & help us cultivate a love for books in this rural part of Mexico. We are accepting applications now at Chacakut.

The Chacala Cultural Foundation is holding the 2018 Winter ChacalArt - Chacala Artist Residency Program January 22-February 3, 2018 in Chacala, Mexico. This program is part of a growing effort to bring the arts to the Riviera Nayarit, Mexico. Sign up today at Chacalart.
 
Music!
 
Come to for our Annual Chacala Music & Art Festival where bands from the US and Mexico play a free concert in The Palm Grove in Chacala. It is a fun and festive event for all ages to experience musical talent in a beautiful setting! Next year's festival will be from March 8-11, 2018. For more information visit Chacala Music Festival.

Finally, our very own Mariachi Institute is having its 3rd annual Institute with Jeff Nevin, Ph.D., Director and Lead Instructor of the Chacala Mariachi Institute. He is the Professor of Music and Director of Mariachi Activities at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California, where he devised and is now offering the world's first college degree in mariachi music (begun in 2004). The mission of The Chacala Cultural Foundation is to promote and encourage the cultural experience in and around the Village of Chacala, and along the Riviera Nayarit in Mexico. This includes, but is not limited to education and performance in the arts, music, dance, culinary and theater.
