Commander’s Comments

Greetings fellow Legionnaires and friends. As summer comes to an end we start thinking about all of our snowbird members flying back home to the roost here in and around PV. We are anxious for your return! Not a lot has changed – although there seems to be a heck of a lot of construction in and around PV. There are at least three high rise condos being built within a couple of blocks of Steve’s! With the new season comes our opportunity to once again raise funds for the various charities that we support in the area. As in the past, we plan on doing another Poker Tour as well as our infamous Chili Cook Off. The good news is that these two events are well liked, successful, and looked forward to by many. The bad news is that as we grow older there are fewer members who are willing to volunteer to help with these events. I must point out – that without help from volunteers these events could not take place. SO – I’m asking you to consider helping this year – either in the planning or the execution of either or both of these events. We are extremely fortunate that Dennis Rike is willing to continue to help with so much of the planning and communicating that is so important to the success of these events. ALSO, worthy of mention is the help of Donna and Jake who, although not members, spend a lot of their time helping with both events – especially the Chili Cook Off. THANKS to Dennis, Donna, and Jake for their selfless help. J. R. Wilson, Commander

TIME TO RENEW

Please pay your dues for 2018! It is STRONGLY encouraged that you pay your dues online. The address for this is: mylegion.org/renewal . We already have over HALF of our members renewed – please take the time to RENEW NOW.

Carla’s Kitchen A REMINDER

Vets (and other expats) often run out of cash and/or food by the end of the month. Many stop in to Steve’s Sports Bar and ask Carla for help – whether it be for a burger or a few pesos. Carla helps them whenever she can. She maintains a small warehouse of extra food for these folks. SO, the next time you are at the grocery store, Sam’s, or Costco – grab some extra food and drop it off at Steve’s. Carla will see that it goes to those in need. Thanks in advance for helping your fellow vets!

Chili Cook Off

It’s time to be thinking about next year’s Chili Cook Off – our biggest fundraiser of the year! The event will be held on Saturday, the 24th of February. SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS! More information will be coming in the upcoming months. If you would like to be part of the planning committee please send me an email (JRinMX@Gmail.com).
