Chef Betty Vazquez Presented with National Tourism Education Award

Chef Betty Vázquez, Culinary Ambassador to the Riviera Nayarit, has received the 2017 National Tourism Education Award given by the Mexican Association of Higher Education in Tourism and Gastronomy (Amestur, by its acronym in Spanish), based on an analysis of her professional tenure.

The announcement was made by the president of the Advisory Committee and Dr. José Luis Isidor Cato, representative of the Amestur general assembly, who pointed out that the organism’s recognition committee took into account the high quality of the Nayarit-born chef’s activities in support of culinary education, tourism and national culture.

Chef Betty shared her joy and gratitude for the award direct from Calgary, Canada, where she was participating in the Women Chefs & Restauranteurs (WCR), an educational conference where the attendees take part in inspiring dialogues, educational workshops, and networking events, all with the slogan “People. “The union of tourism and gastronomy is something I’ve been working on forever with pride and enthusiasm, though sometimes it can almost be painful because enough isn’t done about it. Today my work brings me much satisfaction,” she commented.

She will receive the award on October 12th at 9:30 a.m. at the Silver Center in the city of Zacatecas during the 6th International Conference on Touristic and Socio-Cultural Advancement.

Betty Vázquez - a judge on the Mexican reality show, Master Chef - has a career that spans 37 years, and for the past decade or so she has championed the gastronomy of Nayarit. Her creations have brought her recognition from national and international entities; she has also been an active participant in festivals, conferences, seminars, publications and reality shows such as Master Chef México, and the guest of honor representing Mexican cuisine in different countries and festivals around the world.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) would like to acknowledge Betty Vázquez’s important milestone, which is in itself recognizes the quality of the gastronomy visitors can enjoy while in Mexico’s Pacific Treasure.

La chef Betty Vázquez, Embajadora de la Gastronomía de Riviera Nayarit, ha sido reconocida con el Premio Nacional de Educación Turística 2017 que otorga la Asociación Mexicana de Centros de Enseñanza Superior en Turismo y Gastronomía A.C. (Amestur), con base en el análisis de su trayectoria profesional.

El anuncio fue hecho por el presidente del Consejo Consultivo y representante de la Asamblea General de Amestur, Dr. José Luis Isidor Casto, quien señaló que la comisión dictaminadora de reconocimientos de ese organismo tomó en cuenta la alta calidad de la chef nayarita en el desempeño de sus actividades en favor de la educación gastronómica, del turismo y la cultura nacional.

Desde la ciudad de Calgary, Canadá, donde participa en la WCR-Women Chefs & Restauranteurs, - una conferencia educativa en la que las asistentes son parte de discusiones inspiradoras, talleres educativos y eventos llenos de conexiones y redes, con el tema Gente, Propósito, Pasión - , la chef Betty dijo sentirse muy contenta y agradecida con la designación. “Hablar del turismo aunado con la gastronomía lo vengo haciendo desde siempre, con orgullo, con entusiasmo, algunas veces con dolor porque no se hace lo suficiente, hoy nuevamente mi trabajo me da otra satisfacción”, comentó.

El premio se entregará el próximo 12 de octubre a las 9:30 a.m. en las instalaciones del Centro Platero en la ciudad de Zacatecas, en el marco de la inauguración del 6to. Congreso Internacional de Animación Turística y Sociocultural.

Betty Vázquez, actual juez en el reality show mexicano Master Chef, tiene 37 años de carrera y durante casi una década ha abanderado la gastronomía nayarita. Sus creaciones le han valido el reconocimiento ante instituciones nacionales e internacionales, al igual que su participación en festivales, conferencias, seminarios, publicaciones y reality shows, como Master Chef México. Asimismo, ha sido invitada en distintos países y festivales mundiales para representar a la cocina mexicana.

La Oficina de Visitantes y Convenciones de la Riviera Nayarit (OVC) le reconoce este importante logro a la chef Betty Vázquez, que constituye, asimismo, un reconocimiento a la calidad de la gastronomía que los visitantes pueden encontrar en el Tesoro del Pacífico Mexicano.
