Hang on to your hat, folks, the season kick-off is almost here.
This year will be full of activities! We officially start the season with VYC Opening Day, this year on November 3. It will be a full day of Ashore and Afloat events, so put it on your calendar. Stay tuned for details as the date gets closer.
What else? The Ha-Ha'ers are coming! The Baja Ha-Ha boats wrap up their rally in Cabo San Lucas by November 10, but many will work their way to sunny Vallarta in the 3 Days to Paradise Rally November 12-14. To add fun to the mix, on November 24, a Dine & Dash from Nuevo Vallarta to La Cruz will be followed by PVSailing Open House that afternoon.
To make sure any remaining Ha-Ha'ers don't miss the fun, on November 28-30 the San Blas Rally/Cruise is a downwind rally to welcome boats from La Paz and Mazatlan to our Banderas Bay. That's just in time for The Great Chili Cook-Off on December 1. That giant chili party gets bigger and better every year, and this year will be the best yet.
VYC's successful Concert Series will resume on Monday, November 12, 2012, with Mikki Prost performing her tribute show "Supreme Dreams" to be followed on Monday, December 10, with international Reggae star Kassiano Smith and then on Monday March 4, 2013, by Jazz icon (and fellow VYC member) Tom Coster. We will concentrate on the first two shows in this article and talk about Tom's show soon.
Lots more is set for December, including the Banderas Bay Blast Sailing Regatta December 12-14, Pirates for Pupils, Dine & Dash, Sail & Power Cruise-out to Las Animas, Whale Watching Day, and more.
It's not too soon to think about donations for the only VYC fundraiser for the club. This auction on February 17 is taking the place of the annual Art & Wine Festival, but we will have art and wine to auction in addition to many other items.
Some things that have already been donated: BBQ dinner with cocktails at Fred & Dee Cockerham's condo, necklaces handmade by Barb Harper, sailing chart plotter kit from Doug & Diane Campbell, rubber kayak from Bob & Karen O'Hara and a "Quack Attack" t-shirt from the University of Oregon. So put on your thinking cap and click here for the auction item form. Just email Dee at firstname.lastname@example.org or drop it off with Rudy at the VYC.
We are also going to need lots of volunteers to help put on this event. If you want to help, let Ricki Williams, Sharon Sax, Jeanie Benaroya, Dee Cockerham or Leslie Baldwin know and we will find an assignment for you. Let's all make this new Auction a roaring success!
The "Action for Food" Drive is going strong for this month of September. September means no tourists, no jobs and tough times trying to feed a family. September 1-30, VYC is teamed with PEACE and 4 North Bay towns to collect dry food (rice, beans, etc). Community members in need clean streets, recycle trash in exchange for a package of food. VYC is collecting food items for the project. Great idea, and here's the info.
With all that's coming, get ready to party, Mexican style!
Stay tuned for details as the dates gets closer.
We invite you to add your charity or supporting organizations' news stories and coming events to PVAngels so we can share them with the world. Do it now!
If you would like to donate directly to the non-profits in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, here are some suggestions you may want to consider to help our local communities in this time of greatest need.
