The Puerto Vallarta Food Bank, in their efforts to support the families of Vallarta that are living in poverty, have implemented the "For a Mexico Without Hunger" campaign.

As part of their October program to collect food for our needy populations in the Banderas Bay area, our local Food Bank (Banco de Alimentos PV) has organized a Food Drive on Saturday, October 20, beginning at 10:00 am.

They ask that you stop by with your donations of rice, sugar, beans, grains, cereals and any nonperishable food that you can supply.

If you can help, they will be waiting for you at the Sports Arena, Unidad Deportiva Municipal Agustin Flores Contreras (across from the Sheraton Hotel).

They will sort and distribute all collected items to our citizens in need.

Food banks are institutions created to meet the needs of a portion of the population living in extreme poverty. They work and strive to recover and take advantage of all the usable edible food that was formerly wasted.

Every year on the occasion of the World Food Day, celebrated in the month of October, 66 food banks in the country join together to go out into the streets and go door-to-door appealing to the goodwill of the citizens to donate nonperishable food, especially seeds, cereals and grains. These are paired and distributed among all beneficiaries of the program in a manner fair and balanced.

This effort is made possible by the coordination of Food Bank of Mexico (Bancos de Alimentos de México) and the decisive participation of the national military services, Army, Marines, Scouts, schools, businesses, volunteers and citizenship.

It is worth mentioning that more than 1,200,000 people are benefited each year by the Food Bank of Mexico.

Remember their slogan, "Eating is a pleasure...Food is a necessity."
