Next month on November 10, far to our south in the state of Guerrero, the Acapulco Yacht Club will stage the 17th Annual Copa Aaron Saenz Regatta.
You are wondering why I am telling you about this; the answer is that ten local children, ages 10 – 13, members of the Children’s Sailing Program from La Cruz will be entered in this competition IF and only IF we can help them get there.
Passage for their sailing vessels has been arranged but NOT, unfortunately, the transportation of the 10 children.
This is a group of kids who have chosen to pursue sailboat racing because, being from La Cruz, the sea is in their blood.
These are not "rich kids" by any stretch of the imagination, they are the sons and daughters of regular local working folks, most of them fishermen, who cannot afford the cost of the round trip bus tickets for their kids.
I have volunteered to help Dunia Gutierrez (one of our local vets) to try and help raise the funds, approximately 13,500 pesos (a little less than $1,000 US).
Please help us raise the funds to get these kids to the competition in Acapulco so they can represent our town and community with pride.
