Heartfelt Thanks!
The volunteers at PuRR Project want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have supported us this past year, with your time spent visiting the shelter, with the supplies you've lugged down to Mexico, with the homemade items to sell, the cats you've virtually adopted or the fund-raising events you've attended.

And, we'd like to particularly thank these wonderful folks for their financial support in a tough year: Gary Phillips, Fred & Linda Marshall, Joy Hall, Richard Robertson, Pat & Rick Rutherford, Annie Dodge and John Ryan, Carol Liggett, Dave Robertson, Diane Dally & Brendon Harris and Kathi Itzcovitch. A special thanks to our web designer, Griffin Graffix, for the new improved website. And kudos to the good doctors of PEACE for their help when we really needed it.
Our hard-working Adoption Teams have found Forever Homes for 97 felines in 2012 and we’re sure to top 100 before the end of the year! All were spayed or neutered of course.
PuRR Project continues to devote its efforts to provide long-term care for the cats that have ended up in our shelter, by no fault of their own, and now depend on us for food and medical care. Some are feral and simply not adoption candidates and some just got bypassed along the way. To us, they are all worthy and that is why we speak for them... because they cannot.
Please think of us when you have a little extra to give in this holiday season. Feliz Navidad and a Prospero Ano Nuevo from the kitties of PuRR!

Salsa-Cumbia Kitty Bingo at Nacho Daddy
We want to send a huge THANKS to all of you who joined us for a FULL HOUSE on December 5 at Nacho Daddy where we raised enough pesos to fund the shelter for almost two weeks!!
Kathleen Palmer was once again the caller and brought along some fab prizes to add to our 50/50 raffle and make it a "Raffle on Steroids"... it worked and we're going to do it again!
Tammy's special 25 peso margaritas were also a big hit that night.
So, if you're in town, come out and join us for another lively evening of BINGO and dancing on Tuesday, December 18, at Nacho Daddy. Marcella Castellanos and her troupe of salsa and cumbia dancers will entertain us at half-time and maybe give us a lesson or two?
As usual, there will be fabulous bingo prizes, a 50/50 raffle on STEROIDS, food and drink specials. The fun starts at 6:00 pm. Nacho Daddy is located at Basilio Badillo #180. Grab a friend, grab a table and join the fun!
Note the date change from our usual Wednesday night bingo.
Iguanas wish you a Merry Christmas! |
Shelter News
Now that the high season is upon us, we've got lots of requests to visit the PuRR Shelter. It is located WAY OUT in the countryside in the middle of some cornfields and cow pastures near Porvenir, and not easy to find. That's why we've organized guided tours each week to lead folks out there or give them a lift if needed.
This year, Pam Sullivan volunteered to lead the tours. The meeting point is the Starbucks in Plaza Peninsula at 10:00 am. The next one is either Tuesday, December 18 or Thursday, December 20, but it is normally every Wednesday.
It’s very informal and you'll spend about an hour there with lots of time to pet kitties! If you are interested, you can contact Pam directly at toursoftexas@hotmail.com for more details.
Last week, Walt and Karen Trolson of Washington state were visiting when a couple of huge male iguanas fell out of a tree... right into the middle of the yard!
Expecting bedlam, we were all surprised when the mob of cats took it all in stride. They showed some interest but for the most part kept a respectful distance, obviously aware of the powerful tails which are used to defend themselves.
It was very exciting and a great photo op!! So you never know what kind of Mexican adventure you might encounter on your tour.

Ongoing Events
We can still be found every Saturday at the Farmer's Market in the Paradise Community Center on Pulpito from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.
We always try to have a few kitties there who are ready for adoption but if you can't adopt, they love to have a little attention so don't hesitate to come by and just say hello and give some kitty-love.
AND... if you happen to be looking for some unique holiday gifts for those cat-lovers on your list, we have your back covered! Our 2013 PuRR Calendars have been a big hit for only 200 peso donation. This week we will receive a new shipment of our PuRR Logo T-shirts and shopping bags - all in NEW COLORS! Plus there are can coolers, key chains and photographer Jim Thompson's unique Christmas cards featuring our shelter cats.

Cinco's Diary
At first, I thought it was just another of those PuRR adoption booths where strange people stare at you, make goofy noises and stick their fingers in the cage. But this time, when the door opened, I saw my chance for freedom and took it.
To my amazement, I ended up in what appeared to be a real home! I made it as far as a linen closet where I hid until four little curious faces convinced me it was safe to come out. There was no unpleasantness, just the usual round of butt-sniffing and staring.
There are two older cats names Sophie and Abby who have strange Minnesota accents. They seem to do nothing more than lay in the sun like overweight doorstops – I foresee no problem with them. Another one, named Mapache, is sweet and pleasant but a little slow. As her younger brother, I plan to protect her from the others.
The one named Paco is going to be my best friend. He has high energy, a sense of fun and shares my decorating skills. He and I have already collaborated on the most efficient way to rearrange Mom's shoes in her closet, the paperbacks on the bookshelf and the wastebaskets. He and I have much to do. Time for a quick catnap, Diary... more later.
