La Cruz Receives End-of-the-Year Spiffing Up Jennifer Brinckmann - Amigos de La Cruz | |
December 31, 2012 |
Instead of a Partridge in a Pear Tree, the people of La Cruz (led by Delgado Angel A. Garcia and sponsored by Semarnat) are giving La Cruz a special present.
Each day for 12 days, eager groups of townspeople are descending upon the arroyos, beaches and highways with the noble goal of spiffing up the town.
Not only are they focusing on basura (trash), but are also busy raking dead grasses and gathering tree branches and fallen palm fronds.
A special thanks also goes to Angel for creating an easy to use pathway over the rock wall at the Alamar Beach Club. Even I can now cross to the other side!
Karen Cope and I met with Angel and with Carmen Perez and Joel Bañuelos who were here from the Semarnat office in Tepic. We learned that the clean up program is a combined effort of the state and federal governments and happens yearly throughout Mexico.
This year the program is operating in 14 states.
In Nayarit, 8 beach towns have been identified for the program. In addition to La Cruz, clean ups are taking place in San Pancho, Sayulita, Los Alaya, Rincon de Guyabitos, La Penita, San Blas and Santiago.
Be on the lookout this week for groups of people wearing white Semarnat t-shirts carrying their bags and rakes and let them know how much we appreciate their gift.
We invite you to add your charity or supporting organizations' news stories and coming events to PVAngels so we can share them with the world. Do it now!
From activities like hiking, swimming, bike riding and yoga, to restaurants offering healthy menus, Vallarta-Nayarit is the ideal place to continue - or start - your healthy lifestyle routine.
