The Secretary of the Navy detected American fishermen in Mexican waters without permits and, although they say they were sport fishermen, they exceeded the catch limits established by law.

For this reason, when they catch another under the same conditions, they will be arrested and their boats seized, reported Matías Arjona Rydalch.

During his participation as a guest of Group 21, the State Minister of Fishing and Aguacuture, said that this situation was reported to American authorities, and they even had a meeting on this matter in San Diego, California.

The reason for the meeting, said the state official, was to warn all those who are involved in sport fishing that they must have the proper permits to enter Mexican waters, and obey the catch limits established for sport fishing.

He said that during one inspection made by the Navy of several boats found in Mexican waters, they found some without permits and other cases where the catch limits for sport fishing were exceeded.

In one of the inspections, said Arjona Rydalch, a boat was intercepted which had 74 tuna, a number far above that established for sport fishing.

The Minister of Fishing and Aquaculture pointed out that no one was arrested in that operation, and they were only given many "warnings," but an agreement has been established with American authorities to inform sport fishermen that they will have heavy fines if they do not comply with Mexican law.
