Wealth-X and UBS Billionaire Census 2014 (Wealth-X)
There are more billionaires worldwide than ever before, according to the 2014 Billionaire Census from financial analysts at Wealth-X and UBS.
The report tallied 2,325 men and women with at least $1 billion in assets, up 7 percent over last year.
Researchers say the average billionaire is 63 years old and worth about $3 billion. Almost all are men. Just 286 are women, or about 12 percent of the total.
While some inherited their wealth, the vast majority - about 87 percent - made all that money on their own.
The U.S. is home to the largest number of billionaires, about one in four.
