Mexicos’ National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH) has published a damning report, outlining horrid conditions and corruption in a majority of Mexico’s 102 women’s detention facilities.
The report titled “Special Report on Women Deprived of Liberty in Detention Centers in Mexico,” outlines rampant human rights abuses and violations in at least 77 of the prisons, declaring that in many there exists a parallel government control and administration of the facilities.
The report, carried out between February and March of 2014, with 11,107 female inmates, exposes widespread and common sexual abuse; poor material conditions; failure in providing adequate services; inequality between men's and women areas; poor nutrition; maltreatment; and overpopulation and overcrowding.
